All metal, except for the reversible door guide. Has a reversible striker for rounded and square plates. One would strike that with a hammer to make the latch place outline. Since I am using the average Kwickset bed/bath door knobs and latched the rounded cutout worked. There is a plastic door guide that is reversible for how thick your door is. There is a chisel thing at the one end, but I wasn’t comfortable with it. I found that tool works well to define the outline of your latch plate but I still use my wood chisels to chop out the wood.

I was pleasantly surprised, not knowing how this tool would work. I needed to install a Nest/Yale lock but I realized the pins weren’t lining up because the bolt wasn’t flush to the door. This tool allowed me to chisel a vertical cut into the door perfectly. But I did need to use a smaller chisel to carve out the edges. Great tool for the job!

Not as easy as I’d hoped it’d be, but not a complete waste. If you’re doing a bunch of doors I’d use something else, but for 1-2 doors this will work, just go very slowly and take your time since it can gouge a chunk out of your door if you’re not slow and careful.

Easy to figure out how to use and this would work like a charm for most off the shelf doors. But I was using it on poplar doors and trying to whack this into the side grain was not easy, the cutting edge is just not that sharp. Took repeated whacks, some chiseling, more whacks etc. I might have better off looking for a router jig for this particular job but otherwise it is pretty well designed and ingenius.

Wow. I’ve struggled with creating a clean outline for the door latch before. With some sturdy hammer whacks on this tool, it creates the perfect outline. It has a template for rounded off latches and flip it over it has the template for squared off latches. Very nice.However, I have some mixed feelings on the built in chisel. It worked like a dream on the first two doors. The third door must have been out of some sturdy wood because the built in chisel couldn’t handle the job. I have a couple of more doors to complete so hopefully it can finish this job.
