It takes a little bit of practice to get it perfectly centered all the time. But it does take the guess work away and speeds up the hinge installation.

Solid product. Accurate, robust. The self centering hinge drill bit from ryobi is another great tool from ryobi that fits the bill. I needed to use it for shallow depth pilot holes for a cabinet project and needed the self alignment and plunge features. Worked great to hit the holes dead center on some .7 inch Thick boards At a shallow depth so I could connect them to other boards without breaking through.

This Ryobi Self Centering Hinge Bit, Part A99SCHB1 is for #8, #10 & #12 Screws. It has a 1/8″ drill bit and a 1/4″ drive end that fits all 1/4″ drive chucks. The centering shaft with countersink chamfer is spring loaded. This is pretty nice for installing hinges and getting the drill to be exactly in the center of the hole. This will keep the hinge from moving when tightening down the screws exactly where it is supposed to be.

Ryobi has been making tools for years, some tools are very well built. This is one of those well built tools. It operates smoothly and is a great help for installing hinges and fasteners. This self centering hinge bit can be used with a jig or just use the hinge itself. It helps make sure that the drill hole is straight and accurate for placement of the intended screws.

Made perfect pilot holes for my bathroom door hinge screws. This Ryobi self-centering hinge bit saves me a lot of time and labor when installing doors. Before I had this Ryobi tool, I used a hinge for a pattern and a pencil and a punch to mark and pre-drill hinge screw holes. After I was finished, there always seemed to be at least one hole that would not be centered. This hinge bit eliminates that problem. The 1/8″ drill bit is suitable for #8, #10 and #12 size screws. I used it for making pilot holes for #10 screws in a #2 pine 2’x4′. The drill bit is adjustable for depth and is replaceable by loosening a set screw on the bit’s collar. I also noticed that Ryobi makes this tool with other drill bit sizes so I’ll soon be getting another that works for piano hinges.

I’m really digging the Ryobi line of tools/accessories for carpentry. I added this to my collection because I wanted to be able to knock out the hinge installation on a set of doors. It makes quick work to center those hinge screws so your doors close perfectly. It’s impact-ready and it’s depth adjustable with the flick of an allen wrench. Not only is this great for doors, you can use it for anything with a hinge(well I mean, of course you can). Great for woodworkers, professionals, DIY carpenters.

This hinge bit is great! Have you ever had the problem of the drill walking on you when you go to drill a hole for a hinge, and it just doesn’t fit right when you’re done? This is the answer to that problem. The bit has a spring-loaded metal sheath over it that has a beveled end that fits right into the hole in the hinge, keeping it perfectly centered. Then as you push down on the drill, the sheath holds it in place while the drill bit emerges from the end of the sheath into your wood, centering the hole perfectly. Do a test hole first to make sure the bit doesn’t go too deep. It’s also good for anything else that needs a screw in a hole too. In the photos I’m showing how I put a sawtooth picture hanger on the back of a plaque I just made. Really simple. Get it lined up, hold it down and place the end of the hinge bit in one hole. Drill the hole, then check the other hole again, making sure it didn’t move, and then do the same for it. Perfect every time! Love this thing.

Great way to center pilot holes for screws in any hole in a metal plate or casting with existing holes.
