It’s clearly not the fanciest product, but for a lightweight, light-duty trimmer/edger, it works pretty well. This is actually the first trimmer/edger I’ve ever used, and it was super-easy. For people with small yards, I would recommend this product.

This is inexpensive and feels like it. But it is also light and uses the same batteries that I have for other Ryobi products. So I jumped from a gas operated trimmer to this.It is OK. I could not assemble it because the tab from the top part was misaligned and stuck out too far. A few seconds with a Dremel sander and it went together.This uses only a small diameter string that wears out quickly. The string feed is better than the ‘tap on the bottom’ but takes some getting used to. I am not sure if I have to stop the motor or just hit the trigger switch.I got bulk string from Home Depot and will wind it myself. That is easy and saves over their cartridges.As with all trimmers, they make mediocre edgers. This works, but it is hard to make a clean edge.Overall, I am happy that I got it, but if I had a lot of trimming to do, I would never have selected this one.

I will say that I really enjoyed this trimmer. The best qualities are the ease of use and the weight. I find it easy to restring the feeder and I can edge my entire lawn without my back aching. I also didn’t have any problems putting it together. That being said, I was really disappointed in the life of the battery itself. I’ve had the trimmer for a little over a year and the battery suddenly stopped recharging. This is apparently a known issue as there are a few articles/youtube videos showing you how to recharge it but you have to void the warranty in the process. It seems after some research that the inherent issue is that while the battery does still hold a minimal charge, the threshold of the charging station is set too high to recognize it. Also, there is no direct replacement for the battery available to purchase as it seems the 1.3ah 18v batteries have been discontinued and the next ah is 1.5 but priced at about $50. Yikes! Might as well buy a new trimmer for a little more. Overall decent product, just wish the battery lasted longer than a year. Hopefully Ryobi will do something to remedy this issue in the future.

This Ryobi Cordless String Trimmer and Edger is a great product. The batter last long enough to edge and trim both my front and back yards, (standard size). The edger also does a great job between cement cracks (but will use a lot or wire there). It is extremely easy to convert from trimmer to edger. Very light weight and easy to maneuver. I’ve used it more than five times and it still feels brand new. Excellent product.

I purchased this due to needing something lite weight. I love using it and it does a great job. The reason I gave only four stars is that the length is a bit short and I would love to have the option to lengthen the height of it. Otherwise I would have given 5 stars. If for some reason I need to replace it in the future, I would almost for sure buy another just like it. I would suggest that if you have a lot to trim buy an extra battery, or your down time waiting on recharging is approximately 30 minutes. I get about 30 minutes of weed eating time with each full charge.
