I needed to replace a Black & Decker corded belt sander which I had used for many years. The Ryobi is excellent and CORDLESS. It is 3 x 18 inches instead of 3 x 21 inches but I did not really notice the difference. I like the larger front radius. The B & D had a 1/2 in front radius.

Like that you can sand anywhere and dont need to worry about a power cord.

After running back over the cord of my corded belt sander twice, I decided to go cordless. This is a good cordless tool. The belts are easy to put on and adjustments are straightforward, no tools involved. It is a little slower than a corded sander and not as powerful but it gets the job done. If it was a little more powerful I would have given it five stars. I know that it is a cordless tool and there are some compromises. Keep that in mind and this sander will be a good addition to your tool collection.

Works great. The problem people have with the belt running off is completely correctable using the adjustment knob. Great sander for the price!

We are big fans of the Ryobi ONE+ line, and have quite a collection going. This belt sander was our most recent purchase, and will be the first Ryobi tool we are returning. We should have listened to the other reviews. We purchased this to sand our one year old deck before staining. (Yes, we should have sealed it sooner to save us the trouble altogether.) The belt is a huge pain to keep on track, and requires multiple adjustments during use. We made sure it was tracking properly before setting it down on the surface. Our deck only has small inconsistencies (slight cupping,) but they were enough to send the belt moving in one way or another. We have a bunch of 3Ah batteries, and thought they would be sufficient to overcome the high power consumption. We completely underestimated how much of a pain only getting 5 minutes of work-time per battery would be!!!Despite the major drawbacks, there are a few pros. Of course, being cordless is super handy if it were not for the battery consumption. The belt is SUPER easy to take off and change–way quicker than our palm sander, and only slightly slower than our hook & loop sanders. The adjustable handle at the front really helps put it in a comfortable position.I suppose this would be ok for smaller projects with a really flat surface, but cannot recommend it for large ones. Large batteries are a must.

Works great! Very powerful for cordless and switching out the belt is easy.

I bought this to replace a corded belt sander. I was tired of working around the cord all the time. I am very pleased with this product, it is powerful enough to get the job done. The only negative is it uses a different size belt, so I had to buy some extras.

I own most of the Ryobi one+ tools. They all work great and being cordless makes them even greater. Having said that the recent purchase of the one+ sander (3in x 18in) left me scratching my head. I never use the supplied dusk bags that come with the tools and prefer using my vac. The way that they have positioned the duct port does not leave room to attach a hose. And being a left-hander using the bag gets in the way of sanding. The fix was easy enough, but I wish Ryobi would the design to make it adaptable for a vac hose. To fix it I purchased a 1in 45-degree elbow. Of course, that was too small for the dust port and too large for the vac hose. Out comes the heat gun. Heated up the elbow enough to slip in on the dust port and waited for it to cool. Then heated up the other end and compressed it to fit the vac hose. Now I can hook up the vac and it keeps it out of the way of my “left” hand trigger use. So there it is, my fix to what I consider a design flaw, and I recommend it for anyone who want to attach a vac hose.

eats up the battery and doesn’t last long, but over all pretty good.

I’m trying to redo a relatively small area of floor and have other ONE+ tools and several batteries including newer Lithium 3 amp-hour ones. Unfortunately several isn’t enough, they just die out too quickly. So I’m on way to take it back and get one with a cord. With proper adjustment of the screw as instructed I did not have trouble with the belt coming off. So if you’re just looking to sand down some planks for a small project or something, this would be a good option, but not for even a relatively small area of flooring.

Price and quality makes it a bargain. I think it competes with higher-priced items and oh the One plus battery that fits everything and is reliable!
