The Ryobi router is the first and second router I have ever owned (only one I have owned). I bought my first one 4 years ago. I’ve used it on all sorts of projects: tables, furniture, decks, and signs. I bought another Ryobi this past December only because I wanted to see how tough the first one was. I built twelve 34in round table tops out of treated 2 x 6s and decided to see if I could router the circles in one pass! Yes, one pass. Lol. I used a 1/2in straight bit to plunged route thru 1-1/2 pine. I was able to cut out 8 tables before I burn up the motor. Honestly, I didn’t think I would make it thru half of one table top. But that thing was a beast. So I didn’t hesitate to replace it with the same model. The only recommendation I have is to add a coil or make the power cord coming out of the unit stiffer. So as to not allow the power cord to fall back down closer to your work area. But I think all rounters need to improve that. Other than that, great tool!

Love this tool. It does the job really well and I love the versatility in using different size bits.

This was the second one we purchased. Both worked great. The first one over heated and died after 5 years of use on many different projects, thus the need to purchase the new one.

I bought about 6 months ago. I didn’t have no problem knocking my first project out

I bought this a month ago and it has really come in handy with the woodworking that I have been doing. Being able to set the depth exactly where I want to is perfect. It is very easy to use.

The product itself works exactly as it should. Lots of power, easily moved between the shank sizes with the enclosed collect. The problem is in the quality of assembly. The height lock mechanism popped out the very first time I used it, the screw for it flying off to Murphy’s graveyard. It fits back on and turns, but having a better locking system would be a priority for an upgrade. As well, I fit it to a router table (also ryobi) and took the springs off the “plunge” system for easier use. The guide rods that ensure verticle accuracy quickly started sticking. A little lube eased it, but better seals on those guide rods would also be considered for Ryobi’s next upgrade. Again, it works exactly as it should, but the little things that make it easier to use aren’t there.

I bought this a couple months ago and finally decided to mount it to a table. But it turns out one of the screw holes isn’t big enough for the included 5/16-18 screw. Makes it impossible to mount unless I make the hole bigger or go buy a smaller screw. Super disappointed. How does that even happen.

1. The collets get stuck and you end up damaging the bits trying to remove them.2. NO attachments and NO ability to get Ryobi attachments.3. NO guides but the router has guide holes!

I have this router and I’m pulling my hair out looking for bushing plates to do dovetail work, a staple joinery method for furniture, cabinet, and box makers. Ryobi apparently thinks it unnecessary to make these $5 (probably $.25 to make) parts so that this solid tool can be versatile and complete. If you’re looking to do trim for your house, this router is the tool for the job. Making boxes or drawers with ornate joinery, go with Porter Cable. Not sure if PC makes their own bushing plates, but the aftermarket plates are everywhere.

I had to replace an old, well used, Crafstman. This fit the bill. It’s a solid unit. No tools need for adjustments and the variable speed a great feature.

Glad to have this tool. Just carved out two handles on 3/4 inch red oak boards for my insert in our new hope chest I am making.
