Very powerful, only complaint is it’s too tall…and heavy!

This gets the job done for me! Easy to edge the grass with also. Battery lasts for a few uses before charging.

This tool is great. It’s variable speed as you generally don’t need full speed for edging. The battery lasts several full edging and weed eating sessions for our whole yard before needing to recharge it.

This tool is wonderful! It flips from an edger to a trimmer with a quick easy step and it does an amazing job as well. It is light enough to carry without straining throughout the entire job as well.

This was replace a well-used previous trimmer that burned out. So obviously, I would buy this again.

Sturdy and hard working trimmer. Gets a bit heavy after a while, wish there was a roller to hold it up off the ground.

I am getting older and getting tired of pulling cords and mixing gas and working on small gas motors. I bought the Ryobi 40 volt lawn mower this summer to solve those problems and eliminate pulling an electric cord. All went well and decided after trying to get my gas trimmer to start that I would get the trimmer as well and swap the battery as needed. GREAT move. Both work really fine. The charged battery lasts a long time and provides plenty of power for both. I feel free and love to just push a button and get going on yard work. I gave the trimmer a 4 instead of a 5 only because for me it is a bit heaver than I expected and have not yet quite got the right balance down for ease of operation for a long time. Still way better than what I have used all these years. I recommended these tools to a friend all ready.

wasn’t easy to put together, when clicking on the foot paddle doesn’t work need to use yours hands

I’ve been impressed with the power and battery life of the trimmer so far. The switch between edging and trimming is seamless and the tool’s quality and performance has convinced me to purchase additional Ryobi 40V tools like the mower and blower.

The charger housing on mine had a rattle inside opened it up two of the screws that hold the circuit board down were not where they should have been. I took the other screws out move the circuit board over and found the plastic on the housing was was split open the screws had nothing to grab onto. I ended up drilling a hole and using small screw with a nut on it to hold the circuit board down.So if your charger rattles you better take it apart and see what’s in there you could end up with a little fire. The trimmer motor cover I had replaced two times because the plastic cracks and splits open at the screws. I own 13 different Ryobi products this is the biggest piece of crap I’ve had yet.

I’d give it 4.5 stars if I could. It’s easy to use, the weight and balance are good and the battery lasts long enough for me to trim around my two small city lots. The only drawbacks are that I wish it was a couple inches longer so I didn’t have to stoop a tiny bit (I’m only 6′ tall which should be in the design range) and I wish batteries were cheaper (cost of one battery is almost the same as for the complete kit with trimmer and charger)

The only problem I have is the string breaks real easy

I have used it twice and it seems to work. I am seeing some wear on the bottom where it contacts the ground/sidewalk.

Lots of power, battery lasts a very long time as well.

Works as well as a gas trimmer but without the hassle of mixed gas. Battery lasts about an hour and a half in fairly heavy weeds and tall grass. Nice and light too

I use this trimmer/edger only for edging as I have another trimmer I like better for the job. For edging, this device works very well on my corner lot. I can roll it along the sidewalk and curb for edging. The reason I did not give it 5 stars was that my edger is a replacement for an identical model that only lasted 5 years. And I strongly recommend the twisted “pair” of line rather than the single strand line it comes with. The double line lasts longer than the single line. My one complaint is that my Home Depot stores (2 near me) do not carry this replacement trimmer/edger or the double-line pre-cut lengths. They must be ordered online and sent to you or the store.

Does complete the job with one charge, the only thing is that is too bulky, heavy and unconfortable to cut edges.

I bought a 24V trimmer and edger package in 2014/2015. I loved the wheel on the trimmer guard and it’s no-bump line advance mechanism, but I have to recharge the battery 3 times to finish the yard. I bought this 40V with the same features and with the bigger battery, I now only use less than 1/2 of the battery charge to edge my entire yard. The earlier model started revolving at a minimum RPM so that the line didn’t continuously feed out. For this 40V model, I have to squeeze the handle switch far enough to pass the minimum RPM to keep the line from feeding out continuously. I can live with that.

A little hard to assemble, but balances well and is very powerful!

Overall, it works well, but has only been used once. Plenty of power, and the charge lasted to the end of the job. The string advance worked a bit more slowly that expected, and the overall weight is a little more than anticipated. It is roughly as heavy as a gas trimmer.
