It’s all about the batteries. I got tired of replacing the junky Black & Decker batteries and the refurb Ryobi weed wacker cost about the same as the lithium battery and charger alone. Trimmer works well and is very light, but it’s also really noisy, even for a string trimmer.

I wanted a cordless trimmer so I could keep my yard and flower bed neat — and not bother my hubby. He has a commercial gas powered line trimmer — but I’m not strong enough to handle it. The RYOBI has a fantastic reputation (most of my tools are RYOBI brand) — so I didn’t hesitate to take advantage of a special pricing offer. The charging station comes with the trimmer. All you have to do is plug it in, insert the battery pack — and the digital readout tells you when the lithium battery is fully charged and ready for work. Easy least. Thank you Home Depot — you make great tools available to regular folks like me.

This is definitely a light-duty product, and you wouldn’t want to use it for clearing brush from a large hillside. But since I don’t have a large hillside, only a small suburban garden, it’s perfectly adequate. And I truly love not having to drag the cord around, knocking over my flower pots, etc. I also have a Ryobi One+ chainsaw, and would give it a similar evaluation. These aren’t tools for the professional, but they’re great for the weekend gardener.
