Bought it to do my lawn trimming and a little bit of edging but the string is to weak for edging it just keeps braking off. Plus I find the auto string unit don’t work well. I gave it 4 stars as it still works ok and the unit is well built I think I’m going to try heavier string to see if it helps.

This is my third. It is longer, heavier, and a bit more awkward to use than the 18v, which I also have, and it does not have the two speed switch, although you can vary the speed with trigger pressure on the 40v. This 40v I bought most recently has improved shielding around the cutter head to prevent grass wrapping around the drive shaft, which is an enormous improvement. It is really powerful and effective as a tool. It goes together easily and does not require sanding or cutting away plastic flashing to fit, which is an issue with the 18v model from Vietnam. Recommended, although possibly The 40v may be overkill for light lawn use. I use it for heavier jobs.

I bought this model about 5 or 6 years ago and I love it. I like the swivel head feature for edging. Very ergonomic. It finally quit on me. So I just bought a new one. I hope it lasts as long.

I was gifted this for my birthday. I’ve had the 18 volt version for four years and found this to be better than the gas version my neighbor runs. I’ve cut off another 10 minutes in getting the lawn done.

I’ve been using this trimmer since June of this year. It goes through a LOT of trimmer cord which prompted me to buy the bulk trimmer cord, 320ft reel. It’s very noisy and the string advance mechanism jams frequently. Moving the trimmer head between trimming and edging is problematic, I have to constantly turn the trimmer upside down and use my hands to accomplish this. I can’t reliably rate the durability of this product since I have not had it long enough, BUT based on my use I don’t think it will last that long. It’s very good at collecting dust zand grass clippings on the trimmer head and I feel that this will eventually burn out the motor.

I bought 3 total Ryobi tools…because they offered the 40 volt batteries. So much more powerful than the 18 and 20 volt equipment tools I own. I have been using the battery powered tools to help with my yard for many, many years. Have cut my lawn more than 35 years.

Bought this roughly a month ago after replacing the mower with a 40v at the start of summer. No Regrets at all.

Great product! Easy to use and no more gas! I bought the lawn mower and I can it’s a perfect pair.

Huge fan of this. Lightweight, the 2.6A battery lasts longer than I need. I think I’d trim for 40min and still had two lights left. The rotating head helps with edging which is cool.

I purchased this trimmer/edger a few minutes ago. Did not use it yet. Looking forward to edging my corner lot yard tomorrow.

It has great power, easy to use and always turns on compared to the gas trimmers.

I was hesitant to purchase an electric trimmer thinking there wouldn’t be enough power. My garden/lawn gets overgrown quickly but this Trimmer powers through it all and the battery is only half drained when I’m done. I’m very impressed. Easy to use, switching between normal and edging is convenient and easy. It’s well worth the money.

I was worried because I’ve actually never used one of these before. But this one makes it very painless. The swivel head to do the edge is truly revolutionary. I only gave it 4 stars because I’m on the shorter side and it’s a little awkward to handle and I wish it was slightly lighter

As a senior citizen, I use to have gas powered trimmer/edgers where I would pull the cord 10-20 times to start. That becomes difficult for the arms and shoulders. The Ryobi 40 volt trimmer/edger is a god-send for me. All I have to do is have the battery charged, and away I go to trim and edge. No more shoulder/arm problems, and the frustration of trying to start the old gas powered units. I would totally recommend this product to all homeowners, whether young or older.
