The Samsung 2TB T7 Portable SSD is a compact and secure storage solution that fits in the palm of your hand. Roughly the size of a few stacked credit cards, the T7 is equipped with 256-bit AES encryption and password protection, so users can rest assured knowing their data is safe. Moreover, with PCIe NVMe technology, the T7 offers users quick performance and little downtime with read and write speeds of up to 1050 MB/s and 1000 MB/s respectively. With a USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C port, it’s also backward compatible with USB 3.0 and Type-A devices with an appropriate cable. The T7 comes with embedded management software, which helps you set up a password and get firmware updates. The software works with Windows and Mac computers and is compatible with Windows 7 and higher, Mac OS X 10.10 and higher, or Android 5.1 (Lollipop) and higher.

I bought this external SSD because my iMac’s internal HDD was showing signs that it was failing. I cloned the contents to this external SSD and am now running my entire machine via a USB3 cable. It works really well as a boot drive and saved me the trouble of trying to open up the iMac to replace the internal Fusion drive. I realized there ‘s a bonus to this workflow because I can now carry around an SSD the size of a credit card and essentially boot into my computer using any device.

Bough this to get around the apple storage tax on their overpriced storage options. Super fast on all my macs, almost as fast as internal storage. Can get a little hot with very large / extended transfers, but a bigger heat sink would take away from how portable and useful this drive is. This is a must have for photographers. My only mistake is I should have gotten the 2Tb instead of the 1TB as I keep finding new uses for it. Will be buying a 2TB soon.

Having upgraded from T5 to T7, I now see the see difference. For moving huge photo folders the difference is huge. Small in size, super fast, the only downside for now us price. For me, the price differential is compensated by the time saved.
