Built using their V-NAND 3-bit MLC NAND flash technology and Pablo controller, the 1TB 980 PCIe 3.0 x4 M.2 Internal SSD from Samsung offers an M.2 2280 form factor and a PCIe 3.0 x4 / NVMe 1.4 interface to deliver sequential read speeds of up to 3500 MB/s and sequential write speeds of up to 3000 MB/s. Users will also have access to encryption via AES 256-bit, TCG/Opal 2.0, and MS eDrive, while a TBW (Total Bytes Written) rating of 600TB helps ensure a long operational life. This SSD also features a smart thermal solution to effectively manage heat, as well as a nickel coating and a heat spreader. Additionally, thanks to Full Power Mode, which is enabled through Samsung’s Magician software, the 980 can run with no latency, so you can easily switch between interfacing with large, intensive work files or graphics-heavy games.

This was a welcome upgrade to our desktop PC. We had an older 2.5 inch SATA SSD that was only 128 GB, so size was an issue. The PC still seemed fairly snappy, so we weren’t really worried with performance, etc. Installation was simple, aside from one issue and that is our motherboard not having the screw in the mSATA slot. This is no fault of the Samsung .. most motherboards would already have that screw already in place, so that it was there to be used. We added this initially as a second drive and did not reinstall Windows on it, yet. We have some video games installed here and they load so much faster than before. The additional capacity is also very welcome, as we can fit multiple games. I look forward to getting around to reinstalling Windows and putting it on this drive and using this for boot, as I can tell that it is faster than the other SSDs that we have in the computer. I would highly recommend this drive to anyone looking for either performance or capacity improvements.

Wasn’t sure what to think of the Samsung 980 PRO, but it is fast! Easy to install and lightning fast. It has absolutely SPEED and quality that one comes to expect from Samsung. I watch my spouse spend most of my day in Adobe Programs such as Photoshop and Illustrator. She used to get frustrated at how slow the programs were, but with this all I hear is her raving about how fast everything is! I do think this gets hotter than I’d like – even with the heat spreader label to deliver effective thermal control. I feel better that they are looking at addressing that, but it misses the mark. Otherwise don’t look at anything else – just trust this product to greatly increase your expectations.
