Built using their V-NAND 3-bit MLC NAND flash technology and Pablo controller, the 1TB 980 PCIe 3.0 x4 M.2 Internal SSD from Samsung offers an M.2 2280 form factor and a PCIe 3.0 x4 / NVMe 1.4 interface to deliver sequential read speeds of up to 3500 MB/s and sequential write speeds of up to 3000 MB/s. Users will also have access to encryption via AES 256-bit, TCG/Opal 2.0, and MS eDrive, while a TBW (Total Bytes Written) rating of 600TB helps ensure a long operational life. This SSD also features a smart thermal solution to effectively manage heat, as well as a nickel coating and a heat spreader. Additionally, thanks to Full Power Mode, which is enabled through Samsung’s Magician software, the 980 can run with no latency, so you can easily switch between interfacing with large, intensive work files or graphics-heavy games.

Very smart and fast

I bought this months ago and it went well so far for me without any problems.

Admittedly I’m not doing much to put this thing through its paces. Installed easily in my seven-year-old NUC, had an easy-breezy Windows 10 installation, and everything feels sufficiently quick.

I bought this as work container for photo and video editing. The read and write speeds are better than 2.5 SSD. If you don’t have M.2 connector, you can buy a NVMe to PCIe Adapter to take advantage of the bandwidth and speed.

This was my first jump into the PCI2 M.2 internal SSD field. I have them enclosed in an external enclosure (OWC Express 4M2) and due to the limitations of that unit, had no need for the faster M.2 SSD’s. These are blazing fast configured as a RAID, but also extremely fast as JBOD. Highly recommended by me.

A good price and a quality unit. No issues.

I have been using this drive as a secondary drive in my PC for a few weeks now and it’s so fast that i don’t even think about it being there. Read/write speed is one of those things where if you aren’t looking for it, you only notice when it’s bad. It blows away the stock drive that i have as primary and makes video editing and file copyng so much faster. It’s life changing speed and it’s amazing to see how much faster it is than something made just a year ago.

Been using Samsung products ever since I swapped to m2s from SSDs. They are super fast and provide reliable performance. I concurrently own the 970 EVO Plus, 980 Pro and now the 980 all at 1 TB storage capacities. Each of them have been very fast, significantly faster than any standard SATA SSD’s and the 980 is no exception. I’m very happy with the performance but agree with the argument that NVMe PCI Express Gen 4 drives would likely not really make a huge difference over fast PCIe Gen3 SSD drives. Also the drives obviously cost more. I’m currently using a the 980 pro for the operating system and the 1tb 980 for storing games and load times are blazing fast. This is a very high quality product and you won’t be disappointed in the performance. I am very impressed with this little SSD. I have used other NVMe SSDs and did not have a good experience with their speed benefits until I came across this one. I thought I would give a Samsung M.2 NVMe SSD a shot and I am very glad I went with this 1TB model. It is able to quickly boot my computer, transfer large video and photo files from my scuba diving trip to Cozumel (GoPro), and works perfectly for my video games. All in all, if you are looking for an all-in-one solution, I recommend this NVMe drive. Don’t make the mistake of going with a slightly cheaper model – the logic controller on this drive is worth the money.

It works as expected, including for installing a linux distro, which another NVMe drive I tried did not work with.

I bought it a few months ago, been loving it since the day it arrived.

I installed this on a 2014 mac mini i7 and it is working fine. Boot is decent and it is definitely faster than the HDD previously installed. I would recommend if you can afford, to get a faster SSD, a different brand, that has a 5600MB/read and 4300MB/write for a few dollars more. With cyber week deals going on you can get a much better SSD.

Does exactly what it is supposed to do. Works great

This latest Samsung SSD doesn’t dissapoint. I also own the 980 Pro and the 860 QVO SSD’s. I’ve added this to an Nvidia Shield as an external network storage. Compared to an SD that I had with a USB adapter it’s a game changer! I can’t ever see myself going back to HDD or SD cards. Everything loads faster! This is the way to do storage now. Even if you don’t have a device that can support it you can always buy an external adapter and use it tgat way. I love it!

This beast runs laps over the competition. It barks out speeds never seen before. It’s a good ssd.
