This is a handy, well made flash drive. But its performance is about 25 percent of advertised. The advertised read/write speeds are either greatly exaggerated or perhaps they’re just theoretical speeds. Although the Extreme Pro USB 3.1 is probably 10X faster than the Ultra USB 3.0 that sells for about half the price of the Extreme Pro. I’m certainly not the first to complain about the exaggerated of this flash drive.

I used the flash drive to back up very important photos. The quality and speed is great.
Lucinda Heathcote (verified owner) –
Worked great for transferring large amounts of files and data. Large enough for easy on-site backups.
Amani Johns (verified owner) –
This is the fastest usb drive I have ever used.
Kiley Will (verified owner) –

Fast, quiet, cool, roomy, good price. What more could you ask for?
Karley Gaylord (verified owner) –
well it writes 30mb/s with usb 3.0 not 100 nor 300 ,30 ! and gets quite hot by doing nothing ,should buy the one for 30$
Mackenzie Schuster (verified owner) –
It’s Tom’s hardware performance recommended item. Working great.

Unusually for these devices this aluminum drive is beautiful to touch and use. The slide actuation acts like a self-closing cabinet drawer, very elegant high quality compared to any plastic unit, photos do not do it justice. Beautiful thing. Performance is superb, blinding fast. Well worth the extra cost.

Yes this isn’t as fast as advertised but still getting more than 50% faster speeds than the previous 128GB Extreme Pro USB 3.0 I also own. As well if you need 256GB then this is a good way to go. Tested using Blackmagic speed test I got 323MB/s writes and 370MB/s reads running off a 13 inch Macbook Pro Retina (2015). No complaints to be honest, keep up the good work Sandisk!

I purchase these hard drives as they have proven really reliable, this is the third Sandisk Extreme Pro 240GB hard drive I have purchased, I use one in my video editing computer as the C drive and use 2 others in my Atomos Ninja 2 the 10 year warranty is a bonus as well for myself they also dominate their capacity class in performance and reliability and no noise.

It writes and reads like an SSD in Thumb Drive format! 3.1 makes a BIG difference, that you question did that file write that’s how quick it functions. GPW

B&H was great to deal with and super fast delivery.

I am not a techie guy but find that this holds my 80gb of family photos well. It copied quickly compared to my previous flash drive. Plug and play for me.

performs as advertised

Another great SanDisk product! My last one was commandeered for family photos, so I purchased this one for my own photos. Loads fast and lots of storage.
Clark Kreiger (verified owner) –
I was lucky enough that my 30 year old computer had 2 SATA connectors and this SSD hooked right up… slow SATA speed (SATA300) but boot times around 10 seconds for Windows 8.1 Home…

Fast and sleek, this drive is like an SSD. A file that took 5 minutes to download transferred to the SanDIsk Extreme Pro 3.1 in less than 15 seconds. Blinking light tells you when it’s recording. It runs hot, probably because it is so fast.
Timmothy Quigley (verified owner) –
I got this for my Blackmagic Production Camera and it works really well, it’s fast enough for the 4K Raw and a really good SSD all around.

Fit perfectly in the Atomos drive caddies. So far no issues.
