I bought one of these drives 8 months ago, feeling very confident from the reviews and especially that it was made by SanDisk, a very established company in this business. This was my very first SSD drive and it was on sale so I went ahead and bought one so I can use it mainly for my RAW photography photos and Lightroom catalogs. I felt if I was going to trust any drive to keep all this stuff in one place, it would be an SSD drive like this one. For the past 7 months I’ve stored thousands of RAW photos on it (which has been for my business) and it has been a great drive, other than my small complaint of the cable disconnecting the drive from my computer which would happen sometimes just by simply moving or bumping the drive. But that was ok because it’s been a fast little drive and convenient to take on the go to do work on my laptop when needed so I was content enough with that. I use this drive pretty consistently since part of my work is shooting models, so I use it almost everyday to edit my photos through Lightroom. Today I was on my desktop computer (iMac 27inch 2015) editing some photos in Lightroom when Lightroom froze up on me. I had to manually shut down my computer because the frozen Lightroom also prevented other things from working properly. Yes, frustrating……. but who hasn’t had to do that before? So whatever. Well when I booted my computer back up, the drive didn’t mount. I figured it wasn’t much of a problem. I’d just reboot my computer again and I’m sure it’ll mount. It didn’t mount again. I rebooted one more time with no results. So I tried the drive on my laptop to see if it would mount there. Nothing. I tried another cable to make sure it’s not the cable. I still got nothing. Fortunately I back up all my RAW photos on another drive in case something like this happens, although I hadn’t backed up my last shoot which is killing me right now. Needless to say I am incredibly frustrated and am now scanning the drive with a file recovery program hoping i’ll be able to recover at least these last photos that weren’t backed up. The data recovery program can see that the drive is connected to my computer even though the drive doesn’t show as mounted. Coincidentally enough, a few days ago I just purchased another one of these exact drives (my second one) due to Black Friday deals. Now I don’t know what to think or what to trust anymore! I guess even an SSD drive isn’t perfect. This one certainly isn’t, and I was stupid enough to think this could be since I hear so many good things about SSD drives. I haven’t contacted SanDisk yet and I don’t expect B&H to take care of this since I bought it awhile back. Right now I’m just hoping, hoping, HOPING to recover this last photoshoot I did which wasn’t backed up yet. I’ll just be happy for that at this point. As good as this drive may be in different areas, purchase with caution!

Super fast working drive that I use to edit photos. Even smaller than expected. This thing is tiny and durable. I would buy it again.

I bought this hard drive for traveling so I haven’t used it yet, but I couldn’t be happier with the size, it will hardly take up any room in my computer bag.

Have tried to reach this company so many times and I am on hold all the time. It didn’t work right out of the box. very upsetting.

First, the bad: I bought this because my Windows laptop has a USB Type-C port. It wouldn’t read this drive through that port, even though it reads other Type-C drives I’ve used. It is automatically formatted to exFAT, which both Windows and Macs read. I tried it on a Mac with a Thunderbolt port and it worked fine. The good news is it comes with a Type-A adapter, which does work with my Windows. The good: I LOVE the size of this drive. It’s small and lightweight, which will make lugging it back and forth for film footage and editing easier than a giant 7200RPM hard drive. And even with the Type-A adapter, this little guy is FAST.

This product is marketed as a drive that Photographers can use to store/edit photos. I always format my drives with the Encryption option in Mac’s Disk Utility, but this drive will not mount or format with Encryption. I contacted SanDisk customer support. They said it does NOT come with an encryption option; however, they advised that I could use their Secure Access app. The problem with that is that Secure Access does not work with any outside program– and does not work with catalogues like Lightroom– so there is no way to secure a working Lightroom catalogue (or files) with this drive. The drive is blazing fast, sure. But if the drive is lost or stolen, there would be an un-protected copy of every image I’ve photographed and sold. That makes this drive a total failure in my book.

I bought this hard drive to serve as both a backup and working library for my unedited and archival hobby photos. With the number of photos that I take, I don’t want to overload my desktop computer with excess material other than those shots I plan to keep. So far, the SanDisk 2TB portable SS hard drive is fast and quiet. Only time will tell, which is why I’m giving it 4 stars for now. But; I’ve been a loyal SanDisk user for many years and have confidence this item will do the same. B&H, as usual, was quick to send it to me as soon as it was in stock. My only problem was the SanDisk website did NOT recognize the serial number of the item when I correctly entered it on repeated attempts. I wonder if anyone else has had the same problem.

SanDisk makes the best SSD drives. I have several of them and I have never had any problem with any of them..

Works great, it is really small. Connecting cable takes up about as much space as the drive!@

it can be hard to picture just how tiny this thing is unless you pay attention to the dimensions….it’s maybe the size of two matchbooks and probably a bit thinner…speed is quick and ease of use delicious.

As a photographer I need reliable hard drives for backup and to run my catalogs to free up space on my laptop. So far, 1 month, this drive has done that job very well. It does get hot after about 30 minutes.

As a precaution against hardware failures I back up my WIndows 10 systems by cloning to an external drive. I use the SanDisk 2TB Extreme Portable USB 3.1 Type-C External SSD for this because cloning to it is about 5 times faster than cloning to a USB 3 hard disk. This speed up also encourages me to clone more often than I would otherwise.

Purchased two to backup photos. Easy to use. Fast. Love the size. Take up virtually no room at all.
