Designed for saving and editing high-resolution photos and videos, the 500GB Extreme Portable USB 3.1 Type-C External SSD from SanDisk provides users with up to 500GB of storage for their creative content work, as well as a 10 Gb/s USB 3.1 Type-C interface, which is also known as USB 3.1 Gen 2 and delivers read speeds of up to 550 MB/s. Additionally, this SSD is IP-55 rated and features resistance against water, dust, and shock. It can withstand a water flow of up to 30 kPA for 3 minutes, 1500 g of shock, and 5 gRMS of vibration @ 10-2000 Hz. It can also withstand drops of up to 6.5′ on a concrete floor and temperature extremes, with operating temperatures ranging from 32 to 113°F and storage temperatures ranging from -4 to 158°F.
Compact and pocket-sized, SanDisk has preformatted this SSD as exFAT, meaning it is ready for immediate plug-and-play use with both Windows 10, 8.1 and 7, plus macOS High Sierra, Sierra, and El Capitan without the need for any special drivers or reformatting. Thanks to SanDisk SecureAccess 128-bit AES encryption, private files can be password-protected. Included is a USB Type-C to Type-C cable and a USB Type-C to Type-A adapter. Protection is provided by a limited 3-year warranty.

My Apple Time Capsule was full, so I picked up this jewel. I wanted SSD and this works well. It DOES get warm when backing up but I just ran a desktop fan over it during the initial backup, which, for just over 500GB, took about 7 hours. I was amazed at its small size. Great product.

Ive been familiar with SanDisk ever since moving to digital photography in 2004. No reason to doubt their track record as Ive never had an issue. First thing to notice is how small and lightweight this drive is. Hardly notice its attached to my laptop and the USB adapter comes with it. I plan to attach a velcro button to it so I can fasten it to my laptop without fear of dropping or dangling pressure on the plug. I have no way to measure read/write speeds. I have several other external HHDs and each is larger, bulkier and heavier than this SSD. I plan to buy another when this nears completion. Worth the extra expense considering the size alone.

Love this unit. Super fast even with the old usb adaptor. Incredibly small and light. I have had one issue with my MacBook crashing coming out of sleep with this unit plugged in. I would lean to this being more of a software issue than hardware. But it should be noted. Still highly recommend this for big fast data dumps.

The SanDisk 1TB portable SSD is awesome. It’s extremely fast and the storage capabilities is unparalleled. It’s less than half the size of my iPhone and lighter than a feather. I can take it on trips to download pictures and video from my GoPro, Nikon Camera and Phantom 4 Plus and still have ample space. No more dragging a laptop with me (I use the computers at hotels). Bottom line, but it. You will have zero regrets.

Very fast drive compared to a mechanical drive of similar capacity. Matches the speed of the SS drive in my MacBook Pro. I reformatted the drive to OSX journaled because the pre formatted EXFAT limits the allowable number of characters in the title.

This puppy is a gem. It’s so fast, insanely portable and lightweight. My only complaint is that the USB-C cable is quite stiff. The hard drive sticks straight out because of the stiff cable. But that’s a small price to pay for such a great drive!
