We have started to replace HD’s with these in the field to transfer shot video files to clients. They are small, easy to transport, water proof/dust proof. More than anything is that they are high speed, a 128 gig card that would take 22 min to transfer to a 5400 rpm disk drive will transfer in about 9 minutes on this SSD! Well worth the few extra bucks to save transfer time at the end of the day!

This ssd is much faster than any hard drive I’ve ever used. It can be difficult ejecting from my laptop, but other than that this SSD has been incredibly helpful for me as an editor.

The 1 TB disk has now arrived in the price segment, which is affordable. It is used on the laptop as a database for tens of thousands of photos and can safely travel to a mission in the tropics, without having to worry about failure. Very well. I would buy it again.

This product does all I want it to, which is to store videos. It has 465 Gigabytes of available space despite it saying 500 (I assume that is because of the preinstalled software), it would have been nice if it said that in the description though. It has a really small & stiff cord, but I find that useful because it can hang from my laptop without any issue. It also has an adapter for those (like myself) who don’t have a USB Type C port. Overall, I am very satisfied with my purchase, but keep in mind that I only owned this for about 2 weeks at this point. I am unsure of its lifespan, but it comes with a 3 year warranty so I’m not worried.

I have purchased this series of SanDisk (black with red ring) and they are fabulously fast reliable external storage. Reliability is so key! Typically, I have purchased 2TB but for this application I only needed 500 GB. No moving parts, small and so reliable.

This is great SSD drive! Quick to transfer files and a 1TB worth of storage that fits in your pocket. I love it so much, I bought 2!

The SSD is small with a study case. It was easy to access from my iMac. My only complaint its that the security software provided only protects individual files. It will not encrypt folders or the entire drive. A minor point, you have to provide your own case or pouch to hold the drive and the wires.

Very fast backups compared to a USB driven My Passport I was using. I use this with a desktop iMac 5k and back up once a week. These weekly backups take less than 1/4 the time once the mac preparing backup process is over. As the SanDick is solid state, I have no worries about motor or head failures which would render a disk drive useless. I did reformat the SanDisk to use iMac Apple File System (APFS) which I was using with the My Passport. Very Happy with the performance.

Fast to install and extremely fast reading and writing. Attached is the measured speed (more than 10x faster than a comparably sized non-SSD Passport). One difference. This drive came pre-formatted exFAT with a 1MB cluster size. My other external drives are NTFS with a 4KB cluster size. I suspect that larger clusters give you better perfomance, but don’t know by how much. The much larger cluster size will require additional disk space, and if your files are small, then the percentage cost could be quite high. In my case, a folder with 53,000 photos and videos totalling 473GB inflated by 5% (25GB) to 498GB compared to a negligible increase of 100MB (0.1GB) on the non SSD drive formatted with a much smaller cluster size. 5% inflation does not seem like a terrible cost to me, but I don’t know how much performance would deteriorate with a much smaller cluster size.

Having already purchased the 500 GB version of the same drive with excellent results, I opted to buy the larger 1 TB model. The first 1 TB drive I received was not recognized by 4 USB ports on two laptops. On an exchange, the second one had to be plugged in numerous times before being recognized. Upon opening the included SanDisk secure vault software, I was prompted to upgrade it. That put me into endless spinning of the download circle until I was able to finally cancel the unresponsive download, after which the vault software disappeared from the drive completely. Just opening the drive took forever. So I returned the second one too. Also, the included USB adaptor was easily dislodged and constantly had to be checked to make sure it was properly attached. My old 500 GB version still works great though.

I purchased this drive as a backup drive and it works well. I do not use the software it came with. It works without it and I like to keep things simple.

The drive is very compact and can be easily carried in any pocket. I have a Dell XPS 13 PC and the drive works with Thunderbolt connectors on the left side but not with regular USB 3.1 on the right side of the machine. unless it is downgraded to 3.0 through an adapter. Don’t know if this is a Dell or SanDisk issue but could not find a quick fix.
