Before buying this thing, I used to store my works on a bunch of USB and a Seagate hard drive, you know, the boxy one. I always had a feeling that it would fail me some day, so I bought this one on Black Friday, best decision ever. Compact, light weight, versatile, reliable. I no longer need an adapter between Mac and PC, I plug it in whatever device I have, and it works perfectly. Simply a good product.

I use on shoots to dump footage from our video camera SD Cards and I can directly edit on the drive because of the great read/write speeds.

I will never go back to a physical spinning external disk drives again. I got both this and the Samsung T5 Portable Solid-State Drive. From my experience, both perform equally well, disk reads/writes are fast. Comparing the two, I prefer this one. Although it is slightly larger, I like the feel of the rubbery outside that makes the small device very easy to grasp. The Samsung in their smaller overall package size are just harder to hold onto with the smooth metallic exterior. The one downside is that these small drives are easy to lose and the dark color of this SanDisk makes it hard to find in darker places. But with the carribeener hole, this one is very easy to tether.

The drive works ok for normal use but I had to return it for two reasons: 1. Theres NO PASSWORD protection, which is ridiculous for such a product. Pretty much every other portable drive has this feature. 2. The Encryption feature is misleadingly described in the specs. Theres NO hardware encryption of individual files. What you get is a an app that creates an encrypted folder into which you drag sensitive files. Theres no way for any app to use those files directly, so you have to pull those docs out of there into a normal folder. Thats very cumbersome and means encrypting 1000s of your files impractical, except for long term archiving.

This little hard drive is so small, but feels high quality. The case feels rubberized and could take many drops i’m sure. No issues at all. Highly recommended.

This is not my first SanDisk Extreme Portable drive! These are great for quick backups, file transfers or data you want to take on the road. The price is right. It is small and extremely portable. If you do not have one (or more) of these, get one now.

Super fast. Super small. Super great. Wish I could have afforded the 2TB, but the 500GB will be great for proxy footage.

The included USB C cable is very short- almost too short. For some reason I always get an ingest incomplete error in Photomechenic and several photos (may be 5% of the total) are not saved onto this drive. I dont have this problem with any other drive. Everything else is as advertised.

Ok – I have had a 1TB version for a few years. I needed the extra space so I purchased a 2TB from BHPhotoVideo. It was back ordered – but they provided good information about when it would be available (and they were basically correct). I had a good experience dealing with their staff and questions about the product and ordering process. The product itself arrived when they said it would, in good condition. It is a good solid drive from SanDisk – and a very good price on BHPhotoVideo. The drive comes formatted in ExtFat – and for my needs that makes the cluster size a little too big – so I changed it to the 4K NTFS format. The drive works well, even though at times it runs just a little warm. Nothing to be concerned about – my previous one did the exact same thing – and never had an issue with it. These drives are fairly rugged and I would always do my backup and then carry it with me in my jean’s pocket when I would go out. In terms of speed – I do not get the 500MB/s – but do get a very respectable 350-425 MB/s on larger files. All in all – I have found this drive to be as good as the last one – and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a fast external drive!!
