I needed a replacement for an external drive that failed after close to a decade of use as a backup for my work as well as loads of my parents’ photos. Fortunately we were able to salvage those but a direct replacement was going to take up a much larger footprint on my desk. A friend suggested I focus on a solid state external HD and specifically recommended this Scan Disk Extreme Portable. It’s a bit larger than a credit card and very easy to install. Together with a 2TB version I bought to hold the photos, I’m using it’s smaller cousin as my backup drive for work as well as personal financial backup. I’m very pleased and highly recommend it.

I love this drive! It’s much smaller than the Western Digital Passport drive I have used for years but has the same 1 TB storage capacity. It’s length and width are roughly that of a credit card, although it is considerably thicker. It can comfortably fit in a pocket. The case seems sturdy enough to take the drive along on a road trip. I am using it to back up key files on my laptop hard drive and hope to get many years of use out of it.

Finally bought some 4tb SSDs to future-proof 10 years of footage from vlogs and projects, and they are so fast!! I love it. Takes about 24hrs from HDD to SSD to transfer, but once it’s SSD to SSD, it’s a fraction of the time, and you really see how fast they are. Will be buying more!

I needed larger storage space for my video work. I had been using the Samsung SSD’s (2 TB) models, but decided to try this 4 TB SanDisk. No delays noted using it with my intel based Mac Book Pro and Final Cut Pro. One concern I have is that the SanDisk drive heats up while my Samsung drives stay cool. I’m not sure how this will affect the long term viability of the SanDisk. I backup all my work to a HDD.
