I bought this drive to backup my iMac using Time Machine. The Good News: It’s very portable, easy to set up and fast. The Bad News: This comes with a ridiculously short 3 (Not feet) USB C Cable. I have to now purchase a longer cable because the drive is dangling on it’s side from the back of the iMac because the cable is so short.

I can’t put into words how frustratingly annoying my experiences with this SanDisk hard drives have been. There has been absolutely zero user error on my part. I’ve been working in video and photo for over a decade, have used LaCie and most recently for past 6 years the Samsung SSDs. Have never had a problem with Samsung ever. (about 8 years ago I had some trouble with G-Drive so would usually skip those, but a friend highly recommended the SanDisk G-Drive to me, check my review on there, but long story it failed and was horrible within first few days of owning it). As for this drive, this started failing within first use. It couldn’t handle transferring 100gbs worth of photos. I had to reformat multiple times, restart my computer, and finally I got it to take some folders from my old Samsung T5 from 2016. However, everytime I tried transferring an 800gb folder, the harddrive and laptop would get so hot that it would shutdown halfway through. I did this a frustrating three times in a row, each time lasting about an hour, and it never fully managed to handle the transfer. My last SanDisk G-Drive, I unfortunately threw out the packaging so cannot return for a refund. SanDisk accepted a warranty request to replace the hard drive (after two customer service representatives both tried implying it was my fault and I must’ve done something wrong.) After that all happened, I decided with this second SanDisk I would keep the packaging. I bought it when BH was having a huge sale, and decided I’d give SanDisk one more try, and maybe it was just the G-Drive branded one that had troubles. I regret having bought a SanDisk a second time only for it to fail. Luckily I have the packaging this time and will return it for a full a refund and buy only Samsung SSDs from now on. I highly, I highly recommend never buying any SanDisk hard drive and just sticking to Samsung. These drives are worse than my ten years old LaCie hard drives.

Absolutely the best! SSD is the future and this thing is amazing! 4TB of super fast, secure, storage. No spinning disk, no worries. Love it! Works just as fast as the internal storage of my computer. Both 4k video and 100mp image editing aren’t slowed down! If only I could afford a couple more!

Works great. Installed on a Mac as to supplement a Time Capsule backup. Extremely fast.

Tested on multiple computers…and…with multiple cables…DEAD! This unit never left my desk…never abused…in fact…it was never moved from it’s original position on my desk, until after it committed suicide. The 5 year warranty is useless to me because…I used this as a backup drive for my main computer…there is no way I am going to turn this device, in any form, over to anyone! Going back to G-Drive / G-Tech brand…which…I have used exclusively for decades until, on a whim, I decided to give this 2TB SanDisk a try. SanDisk…the brand name I will never trust again.

Faster than my other SSD. Rugged.

I use it to store and process video files. I also backup all my work to an HDD. I use an intel based Mac book pro.
Brendan Rogahn (verified owner) –
It is a really comfortable and efficient device with a high transmission rate, reliable encryption and easy to move.

I have been able to hook it up with both my windows PC and MacBook pro. Editing 4k p30 video using davinci resolve from it is smooth. Now I don’t have to worry about filling up MacBook pro ‘s hard drive.

Great SSD. Security wise, the app is pre-loaded into the SSD and the drive is pre-formatted exFAT so it works on both PC and Mac. You only need to install the App to create or change the password. Once you have set the password, you do not need to install that app on other computers. When you connect it, it will mount a small partition with the unlocking app on it, once you open it, you double click it, put the password and the drive is unlocked. Using CrystalDisk Mark I am getting 1020MB/s read and 950 MB/s write, this was similar across my PC and Mac so the drive is plenty fast. A USB A adapter is included so you can still use it with older computers. Highly recommended.

It’s fast and fits in a pocket comfortably. And after years of using HDD’s (some brands more reliable than others), only time will tell how reliable this SanDisk SSD is (or SSD’s in general). I would purchase more of these if they weren’t so darn pricey.
