The SanDisk 1TB Extreme Pro Portable SSD is built with NVMe technology for fast read speeds of up to 1050 MB/s, which fully saturates its USB 3.1 Gen 2 interface. As a portability-focused drive, it’s both lightweight and compact, and built with durability in mind. It has an aluminum body, which helps to dissipate heat, a durable silicon rubber coating for impact resistance, and it’s IP55 rated for water and dust resistance. The Extreme Pro Portable is compatible with Windows and Mac systems without any drivers. Connect it via USB Type-C or USB Type-A with the included adapter. Additionally, users can use the SanDisk Secure Access software to create a password protected folder on the drive for keeping data secure.

Small, rugged and fast! And I love that it attaches to a carabiner. Absolutely perfect product.

Works as expected. Quality product.

It’s fast, nice and small a bit pricey if you buy it out of the sale

I plan on using this with my incoming M1Max Macbook, but tested it out with my PC for fun until it arrives next week. When transferring video footage from my PC to this drive over USB 3.1 Gen 2 it was only 350 MB/sec; Over USB-C it was 650MB/sec. When transferring that same video footage back to the PC it was over 3 GB/sec each.

I no longer carry a laptop when I travel. Just an iPad and an external SSD drive. I can backup my images, and do quick Lightroom edits, more for fun and out of curiosity than final processing–I do that when I return home. I had been using a Samsung T7 drive as my hard drive. Sometimes the iPad didn’t see it; the transfer speed was painfully slow–like 2 hours for a 128 GB SanDisk card. I stopped by B & H while in NYC. The salesperson advised replacing the Samsung drive with the SanDisk one. All problems solved. Much faster transfer rate. The drive is recognized consistently by the iPad. Now the question is whether I can improve my system further by upgrading to the latest iPads with the M2 chip. As an aside, the system would be much better if Apple improved its file manager program.

Can’t format on Apple laptop

I have had several external SSDs and this is one of the few that I have felt comfortable to cary everywhere and to store everything while on the go. Granted I always back up my files on other drives and cloud storage, but this drive keeps me at ease when saving critical working files.

This SSD is so fast and so compact! It has definitely changed the game when it comes to editing and storing files.

This is my 2nd SanDisk Portable SSD and they are just great. I love the design and size and I feel peace of mind using SSD to back up my photographs after I do a shoot.

The drive works great, but 99% of people don’t have a computer with a USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 port (not the same as USB 3.2 Gen 2) and would be better off getting the *non-PRO* Extreme SSD V2 and not this Extreme PRO V2. I’ll explain with some bullet points. – At some point they changed the names of the USB standards: USB 3.0, 3.1, and 3.2 are now known as (respectively) 3.2 Gen 1, 3.2 Gen 2, and 3.2 Gen 2×2 (extremely confusing). – USB 3.2 Gen 1 has a maximum of 5Gbps – USB 3.2 Gen 2 (what the *non-PRO* Extreme SSD V2 uses) has a maximum of 10Gbps – USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 (what this Extreme PRO SSD V2 uses) has a maximum of 20 Gbps. – USB4 and Thunderbolt 4 (the ports on new MacBook Pros) have a maximum of 40Gbps, but they’re not backwards compatible with 3.2 Gen 2×2, meaning that if you plug this drive into a USB4 port you’ll only get 3.2 Gen 2 speeds of 10Gbps. – The *non-PRO* version of this drive has USB 3.2 Gen 2 speeds of 10Gbps and costs a lot less than this Extreme PRO. – No laptops that I’m aware of have USB 3.2 Gen 2×2, and most desktops don’t have it. Most likely if you want 3.2 Gen 2×2 speeds you have to buy a one-port USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 PCIe card for around $50 (which is what I did). – Because most upcoming devices will likely have USB4 and *not* 3.2 Gen 2×2, it basically makes no sense to get this drive vs the non-PRO version (unless they’re the same price). So, unless you’re one of the extreme few that already have USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 or you want to buy a $50 PCIe card for your desktop, you’ll almost certainly be better off with the *non-PRO* Extreme SSD V2 and saving a couple hundred dollars. If you *do* have 3.2 Gen 2×2 (again, not the same as 3.2 Gen 2!), then this drive works very well! I get great speeds with my $50 Gen 2×2 PCIe card (~1800MB/s–yes megabytes not megabits) and have had no issues so far.

Small footprint, usb-c, fast as advertised!

Worked with the 2TB for about a year, then doubled up to the 4TB. I edit straight off this drive and it works great.

I might be over enthusiastic because I just updated all me computer stuffs (after tens years.) Coupled with thunderbolt 3 port and this Pro drive, transfer speeds are blazing. I edit 4K video from it with ease, transfer Gigs of photos in seconds. Couldn’t be happier!

A great edition to my mobile editing rig. Faster than any external drive I have ever owned. Also great for moving big files between folks as well.

The SanDisk Pro is the perfect SSD for my workflow. I’m consistently transferring gigs and gigs of footage for my job, and the write speeds on this guy make it so fast. I almost always have it connected to my computer. 4 stars – because it’s not black. It’s blue. And that doesn’t affect its functionality at all. It’s merely my preference, ha. Get this if you’re even thinking about it.
