The SanDisk 1TB Extreme Pro Portable SSD is built with NVMe technology for fast read speeds of up to 1050 MB/s, which fully saturates its USB 3.1 Gen 2 interface. As a portability-focused drive, it’s both lightweight and compact, and built with durability in mind. It has an aluminum body, which helps to dissipate heat, a durable silicon rubber coating for impact resistance, and it’s IP55 rated for water and dust resistance. The Extreme Pro Portable is compatible with Windows and Mac systems without any drivers. Connect it via USB Type-C or USB Type-A with the included adapter. Additionally, users can use the SanDisk Secure Access software to create a password protected folder on the drive for keeping data secure.

Specifically I wanted to speed up the response time when using Lightroom on my desktop computer by loading the Lightroom photo catalog (lrcat) file on a SSD drive instead of a regular hard drive. Haven’t had it long, so I can’t comment on durability, BUT I bought to use as an external startup disk running El Capitain for use running Adobe CS Programs and for that the speed is excellent and well worth the price.

I have both Extreme SSD’s and now an Extreme Pro SSD. Test results using Blackmagic Disk Speed Test show no significant difference in read/write speeds between the Pro and the non-Pro. Tested on MacBook Pro, 10Gbps cable. Both V2 models. The Pro is still a fine SSD, but I see no reason to pay the extra 40-50% for the Pro.
