A 500G video project needed some headroom. Now breathing fast ‘n easy on the SanDisk Extreme. Bonus: looks very cool sitt’n on top of the mini.

Disappointing, but this tops out at around 900MB/s on my macs (both M1 based). The problem is that this drive needs a USB 3.2 2×2 capable host, and the macs don’t support that. Even with a TB4 cable it will only give you 900MB/s. It’s my understanding that this is a hardware limitation, but I’m not 100% certain on that. Still, 900MB/s is pretty dang good…but there is a slightly cheaper (non ‘pro’) version that will give you basically the same speed. May return this and wait for a proper usb 4 version.

Small, lightweight. Awesome companion for travel Very fast ! Backups are much quicker than with mechanical drives

Because this drive is fast enough, I am running the Lightroom catalog directly from it rather than my computer hard drive. So far it has been flawless transferring more than 1 TB of photos quickly.

Great addition to my equipment. Fast and easy to use for my needs.

It works great

Downloading 45 mega pixel images with new MacBook Pro and M1 Max chip is so amazingly fast. Processing images with LRC, photoshop and Topaz plug in is quick and painless. I am so impressed that I now have two. Important: When buying… your computer USB C ports have to be faster than the transfer rate of the Pro SSD to get the results I’m getting. If not, you should buy a slower SSD and save some money.

This drive is so small and transfers files quickly. Enough said!

Penelope Reichert (verified owner) –
I’ve been a big fan of Samsung’s T7, but this guy has almost twice the write speed. I boot my OS from it and haven’t had any problems.
Hellen Satterfield (verified owner) –
This drive is ridiculously fast! It connects instantly and seems very sturdy. So far I’m pretty happy with it!
Harmon Pouros (verified owner) –
Pathetic on USB C ports w/o thunderbolt. Otherwise ok. Works on both Mac and PC.
Alena Donnelly (verified owner) –
Totally recommend spending the extra money to get the transfer speed.
Yvonne Heaney (verified owner) –
I take it coz im photo editing and vedio editor. I put every item on my project on it, very fast. I need another one at soon

It’s smaller than it looks. Light, super fast (as advertised) and very solid build. It does turn into a hand warmer with heavy use, but no big deal. I do wish the underside was plastic like the top and not that satin rubber stuff. If you travel and need to carry backups on your person this is ideal, it also comes with security software that encrypts your data.

When I checked the read/ write speed using CrystalDiskMark software provided by SanDisk, it is less than 50Mb/s as against the 1000Mb/s mentioned by the manufacturer. Please see attached photo.

I don’t think this was the fault of the drive, but my computer kept crashing while trying to transfer over files (from my old drive) initially – finally worked when booted in Safe mode, so I think it was less of a drive issue, but took HOURS. Now that the files are over (I’m using for my Lightroom Library) it’s working great!
