I use this ultrafast drive to play back samplebased music apps. Small portable and connects through Thunderbolt to my Mac-mini.

This drive is as advertised. It is rugged and fast and gives the peace of mind of being an SSD. I use these drives for backup shoot storage and am tired of spinning disk version which eventually stop spinning. As I make several backups I seldom lose anything these days when external disks fail but these give that extra safety margin. Expensive, but so are photoshoots.

I have finally done some research and found out the necessary educational information about this drive. This drive is capable to do 20Gbps, which is twice of 10Gbps typically offered by USB3.2 Gen 2. However, it requires the host to support this USB 3.2 2×2 standard. Such support currently is not widespread (only a few PCI-E card on desktop support it). Now onto Mac community. Most modern Mac including my new Mini M1, supports what they call Thunderbolt 3 / USB 4, which supports 40Gbps if you use Thunderbolt 3, or 10Gbps if it’s USB 4 (which is a rebrand of USB 3.2, which is not required to support this particular USB 3.2 2×2 performance standard). So, in summary, you can buy this drive, which is really solid. You just in the majority of the cases, will be limited by 10Gbps. This exactly why you will see most users report Blackmagic scores of 900M Bps or so. It’s not possible to go above 1000M Bps in this context (while if you do have the right host, it can reach 1500M to 1700M Bps). Rate it as four-star for this reason.

I’ve been a big fan of Samsung’s T7, but this guy has almost twice the write speed. I boot my OS from it and haven’t had any problems.

fits in my palm and gives me almost 1.5 GBPS of transfer speeds using thunderbolt 3 cables. Can’t ask for more. I have a new favorite portable SSD!
Judah Skiles (verified owner) –
Fastest external drive I have ever used.
Jasmin Cartwright (verified owner) –
Though much less capacity than my 5tb USB-A drive, it’s MUCH faster. Read and write speeds are excellent, and the build quality of the drive itself is excellent. Also very small form factor, which makes it easy to store in a pocket or backpack. And thanks to B&H for the fast/free shipping!

Recently purchased for photography work and have been very happy with the drive performance. A+

If you’re on a Mac the speed is going to be around 900, not the 2000! Very disappointing and missleading. If it hit the advertised speed, then I’d give it 4-5 stars.

I have used it couple of times until know, but it is blazing fast when connected to my 16″ Macbook Pro. I loved it and currently I am putting all of my lightroom catalogs in it and i can’t feel the difference when using it vs the built in SSD!

I love this drive. It’s small, light and stays connected to the computer even if i accidentally let go of it while walking around with my laptop. I don’t know how much faster it is then the “slower” SSD drive but it’s fast.

This piece of gear is just amazing super fast speeds it’s so small though. Like seriously it’s pocket sized. Will buy more. I wanted something portable to be able to edit video and photos on the go and around the house while outside or in bed (more family time) and this is a game changer. Must have for anyone on the go. B&H shipping and service is on par even through the covid slow down. Love it guys!

Love the size, portability, storage and fast access. However I was unable to format the drive on macOS Monterey. Seems to be a known issue. Had to format on my older laptop than has an older OS. Perfect if you have a way to format it!

So small, well made. Super fast, can easily edit off this. It’s great!

This thing is great but if your computer’s USB-C ports are not USB 3.2 gen 2×2, you’ll only get half the advertised speed and you’d just be better off buying the 10 gigabit version. If your computer has any flavor of Thunderbolt, that won’t be enough, the USB 3.x gen 2×2 is not guaranteed to be included. The same goes for USB 4; There’s no requirement for including the 20 gigabit speed.

And quite compact for a 4TB. Easy partitioning in Disk Utility to APFS. Highly recommended!
