The SanDisk 2TB Extreme Pro Portable SSD is built with NVMe technology for fast read speeds of up to 1050 MB/s, which fully saturates its USB 3.1 Gen 2 interface. As a portability-focused drive, it’s both lightweight and compact, and built with durability in mind. It has an aluminum body, which helps to dissipate heat, a durable silicon rubber coating for impact resistance, and it’s IP55 rated for water and dust resistance. The Extreme Pro Portable is compatible with Windows and Mac systems without any drivers. Connect it via USB Type-C or USB Type-A with the included adapter. Additionally, users can use the SanDisk Secure Access software to create a password protected folder on the drive for keeping data secure.

SanDisk 4TB Extreme PRO Portable SSD V2 – I can repeat this line just over and over and over again in this review because it simply says it all! It is a beauty and a review in itself and does not need anything else to be added to it. It’s crazy fast in speed, crazy small and compact in size, and crazy protected from pretty much everything (wind, water, earth, fire? :D). What else do you need from a portable SSD of the top notch quality?

I use this as temporary storage of photos as a part of my workflow. Photos get saved to this SSD while I am traveling on landscape photoshoots, uploaded to my NAS when I return, then re-formatted for the next shoot. I purchased the aluminum case version for its ruggedness. It is compact enough that it easily fits in my camera bag.

Seriously! 500$ for an ssd that doesn’t come with a suitable thunderbolt cable! To get anywhere near the claimed speeds you have to buy yourself a tb4 cable as the one in the box maxes out at 800mb/s. Shameful move.

It’s smaller than it looks. Light, super fast (as advertised) and very solid build. It does turn into a hand warmer with heavy use, but no big deal. I do wish the underside was plastic like the top and not that satin rubber stuff. If you travel and need to carry backups on your person this is ideal, it also comes with security software that encrypts your data.

This is my 4th SanDisk SSD and they are extremely well built and durable! The only issue is that it only gets 1000 MB/S on current Macbook Pros (I have a M1 Max 14 in) – this is related to the port on the MacBook. Windows Users can get the 2000 MB/S if they have a USB 3.2 2×2 Port. I was able to build a portable SSD with a NVME card that can get 2200-2500 MB/S on the Macbook Pro (a 2TB drive cost me about $300 to build); note – you MUST use a Thunderbolt 3 or 4 labeled USB-C cable to achieve these speeds! For the current sale price of $450 price for the 4TB drive here, it’s still an amazing deal and does 95% of the work I do with my MBP including video work with huge portable storage. I don’t regret the purchase, but wish SanDisk would directly call out the limitation for MBP (I had to find out after I purchases it and then did a bit of research to figure out the limitation).

Be careful not to use Password option if using on multiplatform OS IOS and Android don’t recognize the disk at the moment if you use Password option.

I work with large video files and wanted a drive that could move the data fast. With ProRes 4444 video files from an Arri Alexa I needed a drive that could keep the data flowing. The speed of this SSD is amazing. I got a great price for it on sale. These SSD’s are also very highly rated. This SSD has not disappointed me.

I wanted the quality and worry free of a respected manufacturer and needed to back up a 4TB system but didn’t really want to spend that much. I already have a 2TB Sandisk Extreme. So the first thing I had to do was copy the same files same USB-C connection on and off both drives. It is SO worth it for the extra speed (especially with large video files). I love back-ups now, blazing speed!

replaced a much larger 1tb external drive with this one that is the same capacity but weighs about 1/10th and takes up much less space. Highly recommend for expanding laptop storage. I edit large image from this drive and don’t notice any reduction in speed even though I’m using it on a regular usb port (not usb-c) since my computer doesn’t have a usb-c.
