It does not take much space in the bag, very fast when backing up.

This is a fast SSD but like other SSD’s I found the write speed slows down drastically once the drive is close to half full. Next time I will consider the larger drive.

Fed up with spinning disk HDDs failing as an annual event I decided to finally invest in a large SSD during a black friday sale. This Extreme Pro is actually my second one, I grabbed a smaller capacity Extreme non-pro a couple years back. The performance is outstanding on a current gen Mac (which dont always play nice with spinning hdds). USBC ssds like this also play well with ipads on the go. The higher transfer speeds of the pro are definitely worth the extra price as any choke point can slow the whole system down. 10/10 for these sandisk products. Watch for a sale as they happen often.

This is my 2nd external storage unit, but my 1st SSD. My first unit, from a widely recognized manuf’d, was a HDD (hard disk drive) that began to give me trouble. I switched to a SSD (solid state drive), which is supposed to be faster and more reliable than HDD. This Sandisk was easy to set-up and format and has been operating flawlessly. I notice the unit is ‘warm’ to the touch, unlike my first HDD which was stone cold, but other than that seems to be working perfectly, and I really like the password security feature, too.

The SanDisk 4TB Extreme Pro is a very fast drive. It’s great for editing video. It was nearly impossible to format as an AFPS drive, though. Clearly, the exFat drive worked, but wouldn’t be useful for Final Cut. Searching, apparently, Digital Western hasn’t released an update for Monterey. Eventually I found a user’s page and the advice to use my 2019 Intel Macbook Pro USB-C cord, and that did the trick. The SSD then formatted fast and perfectly (hence the 4 stars).

This drive really shows how speedy a USB-C external SSD can be. When I’m using it to back up my files, I often see speeds in excess of 1 GB/s, even with the drive formatted using NTFS. The drive itself is solid, and leaves the impression of durability. Can’t say that I’ve tossed it off the roof or dropped it in the loo to test it, but it’s obviously well-built. Worth the money, especially when it’s on a good sale.

I’ve been using Samsung T5s and T7s, but I wanted to get a larger drive to hold photos and Lightroom Catalogs. I have a Mac Studio with TB 3/TB 4 usb 3 ports. When I got the drive I reformatted it with Apple’s latest filing system. It works well — stays connected and after transferring lots of data to the drive, mine did not get hot as many have reported. I assumed that with the Mac Studio, I would get approximately 2,000 MB/s read and write speeds. I’d read lots of reviews, but I did not fully understand the situation. In fact, this drive reads and writes at around 900+ MB/s using Blackmagic disk speed test. After playing with cables, I sent a query to SanDisk, and, amazingly, after a couple of days I got a long reply. Their contention is that you need a USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 Type-C connection. I’d assumed that my Mac’s TB 4 port would be downwardly compatible with USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 Type-C. This is an incorrect assumption! Unless you are using a computer that has exactly the 3.2 Gen 2×2 port, your drive will revert to a max of 1,000 MB/s. Forget trying a thunderbolt cable — you need to have exactly the right port, and based on lots of B&H reviews, new Mac Studios and MacBook Pros don’t have the correct port. The good news: on my Mac, the 4TB Extreme Pro is around 50% faster than a Sandisk 2TB T7. And, at least for now, the B&H prices on the Extreme and Extreme Pro are almost identical. Perhaps we’ll get lucky, and Apple will start supporting USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 Type-C. The descriptions of the drive state that you need a particular flavor of port — I wish someone had been more explicit about the fact that very few computers actually support this standard. But I remain pleased with the drive.

Doesn’t work as presented. Uploading is not any faster. Also the video editing is not any faster, better if used just ordinary external drive i.e. WD My Book or WD Elements external drive 6, 8, 10 or 12 TB. Just wasting money!!!!

I bought this to help speed up my editing process. I tend to edit with 4k and 6k video and all of my drives were struggling before I used this one. Now playback runs super smooth

As I’ve only had this for a couple of months, I can only say, so far so good; no issues. I work on documentaries and have two which I use to transfer 4K footage from a Canon C-300 mkii. Pros: These drives are SMALL! You can seriously fit one in a dress shirt pocket! The transfer speed is FAST! Cons: None at this time. Suggestion: If you are filming in the field at 4K, I’d definitely go with the 2TB drive. The 500 GB fills up fast. Lesson learned!

Terrific drive EXCEPT that running MacOS 10.14.6 and using SuperDuper as my backup program, while the MacOS recognized the drive and I was able to copy files to it, SuperDuper did not recognize it. I’m not sure whether this was a formatting issue or not, but instead of using it as a backup drive, I decided to use it as a primary external drive.
