Designed for use as a startup drive, the 4TB 3D SATA III 2.5″ Internal SSD from SanDisk provides faster system boots and helps enable faster gaming and graphics performance compared to a traditional HDD. It has a storage capacity of up to 4TB, is equipped with a SATA III 6 Gb/s interface, and fits into your system’s 2.5″ / 7mm drive bay. In terms of speed, this drive offers sequential write speeds of up to 530 MB/s, sequential read speeds of up to 560 MB/s, random writes of up to 84,000 IOPS, and random reads of up to 95,000 IOPS 3D NAND and nCache 2.0 technology.
With solid-state drive technology you benefit from load and access times for your files and programs that are faster than a conventional 7200 rpm hard drive. As SSDs have no moving parts, they are also more durable than traditional hard drives and are better protected against damage from drops and bumps. Having no moving parts also means that SSDs receive less wear and tear, as there are no read or write heads for the drive media to come into contact with. SSDs also help to deliver improved battery life and cooler operating temperatures.
SanDisk’s 4TB 3D SATA III 2.5″ Internal SSD offers their SSD Dashboard, which is available as a free download, and helps users to monitor their drive’s health. Protection is provided by a limited 3-year warranty, or an endurance rating of up to 600 Terabytes Written (TBW), whichever comes first.

As of March 2019, WD is the fourth-largest manufacturer of flash memory having declined from third-largest in 2014 (source: Wikipedia). Being one of the major players in flash memory products market, Sandisk brand inspires reliability. For this reason I decided to buy a Sandisk ULTRA 500Gb SSD. Sandisk products support is available in the Web. Within the product packing, a small paper card informs web addresses that help customers to use the product, specially the Solid State Drive Installation and Cloning Guide available at https://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/11678/kw/ssd%20ultra and the URL of the app needed to clone or backup a SATA HD. In order to help users to prepare and use the SSD, one sugestion to Sandisk/WD: include in the packaging a USB 3.0 to 2.5 SATA HDD/SSD Cable even if it costs a little more.

I replaced the boot drive in my home built editing rig. This changed my boot time from 2 minutes to 15 seconds. It also lightens the heat load in the bay and uses less power than the HD it replaced. The only catch is mirroring the boot drive so the computer thinks it is the same boot drive. I purchased EaseUS Todo Backup to do this. There are applications out there I just chose this one. It HAS to be able to copy boot drive and some software advertisements do not tell you that until you read the fine print. Once the drive mirror copy is made power down. IMPORTANT! Switch the SATA cable from the old drive to the new SSD and the computer should boot OK without searching for it. Mine did. Read up on it and check out some videos of others experiences. If you just using it for file storage disregard all of this! lol

Easy drop in replacement for old HDD. Installation only took 10 minutes. With High Sierra OS you must format SSD with APFS for use as a boot volume. Low discount price was also a plus. While the MBP was opened, updated ram to 16 GB. 2011 MBP now runs like newer MBPs.
