Designed for use as a startup drive, the 500GB 3D SATA III 2.5″ Internal SSD from SanDisk provides faster system boots and helps enable faster gaming and graphics performance compared to a traditional HDD. It has a storage capacity of up to 500GB, is equipped with a SATA III 6 Gb/s interface, and fits into your system’s 2.5″ / 7mm drive bay. In terms of speed, this drive offers sequential write speeds of up to 530 MB/s, sequential read speeds of up to 560 MB/s, random writes of up to 84,000 IOPS, and random reads of up to 95,000 IOPS 3D NAND and nCache 2.0 technology.
With solid-state drive technology you benefit from load and access times for your files and programs that are faster than a conventional 7200 rpm hard drive. As SSDs have no moving parts, they are also more durable than traditional hard drives and are better protected against damage from drops and bumps. Having no moving parts also means that SSDs receive less wear and tear, as there are no read or write heads for the drive media to come into contact with. SSDs also help to deliver improved battery life and cooler operating temperatures.
SanDisk’s 500GB 3D SATA III 2.5″ Internal SSD offers their SSD Dashboard, which is available as a free download, and helps users to monitor their drive’s health. Protection is provided by a limited 3-year warranty, or an endurance rating of up to 200 Terabytes Written (TBW), whichever comes first.

Replaced an aging hard drive with this SSD. Downloaded the SanDisk/Western Digital program to copy my hard drive. Worked well and without problem. Rebooted no problem and Windows opened almost immediately. Internet seemed to load faster as well. Replaced the regular boot drive in my desktop. I cloned the drive. Placed the new disk in the desktop, and it booted as if nothing had changed! Nice thing is, it boots much faster, and I don’t hear the drive spin up noise like the original disk used to do.

SanDisk is a brand of Western Digital. It was acquired by WD in 2016. As of March 2019, WD is the fourth-largest manufacturer of flash memory having declined from third-largest in 2014 (source: Wikipedia). Being one of the major players in flash memory products market, Sandisk brand inspires reliability. For this reason I decided to buy a Sandisk ULTRA 500Gb SSD. Sandisk products support is available in the Web. Within the product packing, a small paper card informs web addresses that help customers to use the product, specially the Solid State Drive Installation and Cloning Guide available at https://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/11678/kw/ssd%20ultra and the URL of the app needed to clone or backup a SATA HD. In order to help users to prepare and use the SSD, one sugestion to Sandisk/WD: include in the packaging a USB 3.0 to 2.5 SATA HDD/SSD Cable even if it costs a little more.

I plugged this in to a 7i5DNFE Fanless NUC without any issues. Folks online have reported that some SSDs have trouble in these machines, including inconsistent connection across reboots, but this SanDisk 4TB SSD has been running fine for me for a couple of weeks now, including a few reboots.

When CrystalDiskInfo tagged my aging HP’s 2TB hard drive as down to 10% service life remaining, it was time to quickly come up with a plan to swap it out for a new one. Did a lot of comparison shopping, and chose this SanDisk 2TB SSD. Along with a 3.5 to 2.5 mounting bracket, and a SATA to USB adapter, it was very easy to use Macrium Reflect to clone my existing drive’s contents to the new SanDisk SSD. Ten minutes to open the case, swap the drives, and my computer was up and running without missing a single beat. Computer boots and loads files much faster now. After several months of flawless performance, I’m picking up a spare, to keep a 2nd cloned disk as a bit of an insurance policy.

First off I like raw 2.5 drives for all sorts of use. Who needs a drive in an enclosure, this already has most of the protection you need. But you already know that. These drives are good for using for quick offloading, as a scratch cache or even in a RAID. Just make sure everything is backed up. This is a good mix of speed and a decent price.
