Designed for use in 1-8 bay NAS environments within home, SOHO, and SMB environments, the 12TB IronWolf 7200 rpm SATA III 3.5″ Internal NAS HDD (CMR) from Seagate is built to withstand 24×7 operations, or 8760 hours per year. This 12TB drive has been equipped with a SATA III 6 Gb/s interface, a rotational speed of 7200 rpm, a 3.5″ form factor, and a 256MB cache, providing users with an ample storage capacity and data transfer speeds of up to 210 MB/s. This IronWolf hard drive also has an MTBF rating of 1 million hours, 600,000 load/unload cycles, 1 in 1015 non-recoverable read errors per bits read, and a workload rate of up to 180TB per year.

I purchased this to use with my Synology DS1520+, and it works great. Not too noisy, but you will hear the workings of the drive a bit if you have it out in the open. In a cabinet, you probably won’t hear anything at all. Seems to be pretty fast for a non-SSD.

I got two of these hard drives to use with my Synology DS1621 and so far they have been working great. I even did a speed test individually and the speeds were very close to what is advertised. It may still vary based on the interfaces being used in your scenarios.

HDD is fast and relatively quiet. Lots of space. Fits snugly into my external enclosure. Works like a charm on my Mac, just have to format it first before use. I bought 9 of these in 2017 for my SOHO Synology NAS. My wife and I have a small consulting business. We use the NAS for backing up the computers, intranet, email, and other typical server uses including a Plex server. Of the nine drives I have had only one failure. It occurred almost 3 years in, and was covered by Seagate warranty. Because the NAS is set up with two drive failure tolerant Synology Hybrid RAID we did not lose any data. Seagate had a warranty replacement drive back to me in 4 working days. Overall I’ve been very happy with these. They work well, and they’re reliable enough for home use without the cost associated with an enterprise-class drive.

They work until they don’t- I’d rather see reviews from folks who just lost a drive than from someone who’s been using it for a week. I have it up and running, it’s quiet, it does what it’s supposed to do. Switching brands to this one for now because I just lost a couple drives from another manufacturer.
