I’m using this as a secondary drive with a primary Adata SX900 64GB SSD + Avant 32GB SSD Windows slave/Pagefile drive. If you’re not forking the dough out for a hybrid SSD drive, these 64MB Barracudas are the drives to grab for backup/storage/large programs/media. This drive sustains 160MB/s transfer from my SSD’s and I can backup my entire SSD drive in just a few minutes. I may add another for RAID 0 in the future to see if I can approach my SSD’s 400+MB/s read speeds. Latency isn’t anything special though, so this drive is better used as an SSD companion versus an OS drive.

It’s a reliable hard drive.

I never thought I would find B&H beating out * pricing on PC parts while maintaining the classic B&H experience. The drive is just as you would expect. I dropped one in my Drobo without issue and another on my motherboard’s internal SATA. Both drives are reading and writing like champs. Thanks!

i bought 3 of these for my raid array nas. just after 2 years (just past warranty), 1 failed. now after 2.5 years another failed. my wd drives are fine. at least avoid this model.

Died way too early.

Needed a replacement back-up drive for one I over powered. B&H had one on my doorstep three days before projected delivery! Yea….

good price and its ok.

It is fast and resistant.

The drive works fine – right out of the box and into my 1st generation Drobo chassis no problem. The only small annoyance is that this drive is noisier than the other three drives in the Drobo combined.

I exclusively use Seagate Barracuda drives for all my computers. I’ve never experienced a failure or any corruption of data. I had to use the Seagate Drive Utility to get Windows 10 to recognize the drive, even though the Bios was seeing it, but this is a windows thing, and not a drive issue.

I’ve had great success with Seagate drives. The Barracuda is an evolving, mature product that you can install and forget.
Amaya Padberg (verified owner) –
Drive runs quietly and cool. Read/write speeds are in line with specification and expectation. Really glad Seagate has gotten reliability issues handled in recent years.

What can I say – it works as it should. Reasonable price too.

These drives are great for the price. They do tend to wear out after the warranty period, but it all depends on how much use. For backups, and other light use data you will get longer life from them. So it is best for offline or nearline storage. I usually go with these drives over more expensive enterprise grade drives because I can just replace a drive if one goes out when the warranty is up and still save money. I would recommend using this disk in some type of RAID for redundancy.

I bought this as an additional internal drive for one of my Mac Pro towers. We continually replace the internals as they fill up with raw captures….it minimizes data loss if you never delete anything, and hard drives are inexpensive enough to do this now. The 3TB Barracuda is reliable and quiet, and will hopefully keep on spinning as other Seagate drives have for me for years.

I bought this hoping it would work right out of the box as a second storage drive for a brand new machine I just put together, but instead of doing so, it didn’t work at all, and was instantly a failure. I strongly recommend if you are planning on buying this hard drive to stop what you are doing immediately, and just go buy the Western Digital equivalent, you’ll spend more money but at least it won’t fail instantly.

They are fine. I got 5 of these drives and put them in my Drobo 5d. They just work and as far as I can tell, they are pretty fast.

1 of the 2 drives arrived in non-functioning mode… Maybe I should stop buying Seagate.. (sent back a 4TB drive last week within a year of purchase with very few hours on it…
Elijah Smith (verified owner) –
This is used for storing large video files on my Drobo. Great hard drive and works wonderfully with the DROBO. Good price for the capacity.

Does anyone really review these things? They are so statistically well made that you can’t go wrong buying one. I have purchased these Barracuda drives for RAID and other uses since they came out and they run for YEARS. I used to buy enterprise drives but I will be dead by the time they fail, and they cost too much anyway. Of the thirty or so I have purchased over the years only two have ever failed and they were on 24/7/365 for a long time. They start making a clicking noise as the heads begin to freak out. Hopefully mine will arrive soon. I have drives to fill.
