It also seems to have worked in a Drobo Pro but the Drobo Pro (old 8 bay) seems to have run into a problem when more than 3 16TB drives were installed.

I have just got one from BH. Warranty is Valid Until September 7, 2027
Issac Cremin (verified owner) –
Very noisy, never seems to be quiet. It constantly makes a clunking sound.

I’m using this in conjunction with an NVME drive (which would be scratch) and this is more bulk storage (1 drive for storage, 1 for backup of said storage). The warranty offers a lot of peace of mind, considering the drive isn’t super cheap.

Lot of drive space for my home movie setup. Perfect!

I previously ordered similar drives from Amazon, but they arrived in a paper envelope(!) with no padding (!!). As a result, they were completely destroyed. The next time I decided to order from B&H. Not only I got a nice discount when ordering 2 drives, they were shipped in a box with appropriate amount of padding (each drive was suspended in individual box, boxes were padded). I am pretty happy with the drives’ performance.

Installed into a prebuilt CLX that needed a little more storage for HD video. Very quite and smooth running.

I recommend it

I have 3 of these now. Super drives. 5! year warranty. Decent price. Performance is good.

I put two of these together as a RAID 1 in a ASUSTOT AS1102T and gave me 32.6 TB usable space after formatting. This is good solution for a compact and simple backup solution. I would not recommend the RAID 1 if you want to have some disk redundancy for a primary storage device in which case a RAID 0 of two of these would do this and give you a little over 16TB of usable space. BYW the AS1102T is a good value NAS with 2.5G Ethernet to give you a little more bandwidth for backups if your network supports it. The Seagate drive makes a little noise when it starts up from rest, but the the noise level is fine running in my lounge.

Seems the older model number (ST8000NE0004) I ordered with my Synology DS2019+ are failing on me inside the 5 year warrantee and Seagate is replacing with this model. Seagate is not offering the rapid replacement, just the standard 2 to 3 week replacement… I am not really happy with this pro NAS specific model!

Drive was dead on arrival. Would not even spin up to speed. It only took 1.5 weeks for B and H to replace it. Now the price has dropped. Drives sound like a popcorn maker in my new NAS. Very loud. I do not recommend these drives.

I’ve been using these Seagate IronWolf NAS hard drives for many years in a Synology NAS server unit . Never had any issues with their hardware!

What all can you really say about them? They’re spinning drives and they’re big! Definitely worth the money over the 5200rpm drives and a good cost saving point compared to SSD for big/long term storage. SSDs would be great, but for the storage I wanted it would be way too expensive. I bought a 4 pack of these for a RAID 5 configuration, which is giving me 15.69TB of storage. Actual capacity of these drives are 5.46TB each if you are wondering. They’re fairly quiet, but you do hear them if you have it near you and they are active. Not the spinning, but more so the head moving. If you put them in a storage device and it’s tucked away, you’ll never know. Great choice for tons of storage!

I’ve had two of these in the last year – my youngest drives, and have already both failed. Terrible product. First two drives in 14 years of being a filmmaker that have failed on me.
Astrid Crona (verified owner) –
The drive popped right into my Synology NAS Box and works perfectly.

B&H once again exceeded my expectations. While is common to find good prices at one store, good service at another, and fast delivery at a third, B&H has consistently delivered on all three for me. They have and will continue to be my first choice for electronics and photography related items.

I bought these to replace 5-year old WD RED drives in a NAS, and they’re great. The performance is better (so is the warranty), the capacity is greater for less cash, but they do run a little bit hotter and a little bit louder than I was expecting. Neither is a major downside, but something to be aware of if you’re sensitive to those sorts of things.

Well packed and sent, good quality product, working well in my symbology NAS system.

I have many Mac clients on Synology NAS devices [mostly DS1821+ series]. Synology has special tuning for IronWolf Drives that help early detection of problems. The ONLY drives I will ever put in a Synology NAS is IronWolf Pro drives. Only exception would be the Synology Branded drives that are also excellent but harder to get and a bit more expensive. I do recommend always using SHR2 for dual drive redundancy with these drives. They are great drives, but ALL hard drives [eventually] fail. –
