When I bought this 5900 RPM drive, I put it to use as my main storage drive for digital photos, not to use in a NAS environment. It works fine for that purpose, and honestly I can’t tell seat of the pants difference in access read/write speeds over over the 7200 RPM WD-RE4 it is replacing. While this is too new to speak to longevity, I’ve had good and bad drives from every major brand on the market in pretty much equal amounts. What I really do like about this drive is in my pc case it is virtually silent. Unlike the decade old WD-RE4 it is replacing which was horribly noisy with its read/write operations, even over the fans running on full blast, with this drive I literally have to stick my ear to the case to hear it running.

just what I needed

Overall great! All 4 disks I got with the bundle are working well, but still early to say that for sure. Those are running for a little bit longer than a week at the time of this review, and so far so good. Would give 5 stars based on the past experience with Seagate NAS HDs, I owned Synology Servers since 2013 and I still have some of the disks from that year and all are still working at 100%. Definitely recommended, only reason for 4 stars, instead of 5, is that the 10TB are a bit noisier than the 4TB I used to.

It is great!

I have this drive as part of an array in my QNAP server. It works great. So far so good. Would recommend to anyone looking to build a RAID system. But warning, get more space than you think you need. I am running out of room on my server and wish I had opted for a larger set of drives.

This is good value for the amount of storage you get. I use them in a Synology NAS, they run quiet and cool.

Good performance and run fast

I have bought from B&H before. Always great value, Fast Service and Quality products. I am so very pleased with this drive, I bought two.

All purely subjective… I’m not unhappy with these drives. They are quite fast. The active noise is no worse than most others I’ve used; may be quieter. It’s a mechanical drive, it’s supposed to make a little noise. It’s the constant knocking sound every two seconds when it is idling that is annoying. Sounds like it is parking a head or something. I haven’t worked out what is happening but apparently it is supposed to do this. Fortunately, it is in a closet. Whining aside, they are fast and relatively cheap. I’ll definitely buy them again. It will be from B&H too.

Only have had it for about a month now, but it’s working fine. It’s a hard drive so not much to say. I have 2 running 24/7 in my NAS. A little noisy. If they die I will update the review.

I bought this drive to go into an external enclosure that housed a smaller drive used for Time Machine backups on a MacBook Pro. I outgrew the old drive and swapped it for this one. Installation was simple and the performance is quite good. It is a bit louder than the previous drive and I can hear it when in use, but I don’t find it objectionable, even in a relatively quiet environment. It will take me a while to fill this one up!

I purchased two Seagate Ironwolf 4TB 5900 rpm SATA III drives at a great price for my Synology DS220J NAS running RAID 1 SHR based on their reputation and compatibility with my NAS. So far, there have been no issues. They run at a cool 26C and I am happy with their performance. I don’t find the Seagate Ironwolf drives to be any noisier than their other counterpart NAS drives.

this is my second purchase of this set of two drives. the second set was a little expensive but its totally worth it. I use it on 6 port synology drive.

This is the 6th drive in my 6 bay QNAP NAS. Same as the other 5. I am using them because of the CMR technology and durability. I’ve had a good experience with them in my Drobo while other drives have failed and had to be replaced.

Setting up NAS for storage- easy, fast, intuitive.

It was easy to install, but it is a little noisier than I expected.

Love these new NAS drives ! I ordered 6 of these for my new NAS. Works like a charm, and B&H delivered these to my door with UPS and took care of all import duties and taxes for me at the time of ordering online. So effortless and smooth ! A BIG thank you to the B&H team. They are second to none when it comes to online purchasing. Thank you ! BTW I’ve also posted a review of the Synology 6 bay NAS – it is amazing !
