I’ve been on an adventure for over two years now and this is the only harddrive that is not giving me any problems. I’ve been on any road you can think of and in temperatures between -40*C and 48*C. Its really bombproof!

Out of the box, this is absolutely the slowest drive I’ve ever owned. 19 hours to transfer 1TB of photos and it kept freezing. Tried transferring same files to a 2 TB Seagate drive and it took less than 2 hours. Not certain if this specific one is a defective drive or if all the 5TB’s are this slow….

5 stars because it’s an excellent little hard drive, as Seagate products typically are. However, for buyer research, I want to expand on a question regarding compatibility with iPad, and echo what I’ve written in the Q&A: All answers in the Q&A section say that it’s not compatible with iPad, but in my experience, it works just fine with my 3rd Gen iPad Pro (USB-C*) if the drive is formatted in either exFAT or Mac OS Extended Journaled (both in GUID partition). *An iPad with a Lightning connector would likely require the use of Apple’s Lightning to USB Camera Adapter However the one caveat is that I can’t get the iPad to recognize it if it’s encrypted. When formatted in Mac OS Extended Journaled Encrypted, the drive would power on, but it would not be recognized by the iPad in the Files app. My SSD and USB flash drive work fine formatted in APFS Encrypted, but APFS is not recommended for hard disks. Therefore, if you want to use this drive with encryption, format it in Mac OS Extended Journaled Encrypted and use it with a Mac. But if you want something encrypted for direct use with your iPad, use a flash drive or an external SSD and use APFS Encrypted. Otherwise, this is a fine hard disk drive all around and will see use as a compact backup for the iPad’s flash drive and other personal files (using a Mac for file management).

I needed to have this product within days, in time for a visit from my techie friend who would install my BRAND NEW MAC (yay!). Needed this HD to be here for the setup process. When the sales person heard my story he responded in such a friendly way and did everything he could to make sure the delivery would arrive in time. He didn’t HAVE to do it but he did! It was quite easy to use, but slightly confusing at first probably due to my lack of expertise. After my friend helped a little, it was very smooth. It backed up my tablet in less than 2 hours, and I feel a lot less insecure about losing all my projects. I intend to use it to backup files on a regular basis now. I would buy this again and have recommended it to others.

I am a wedding/commercial videographer and love these guys for easy backups. Easy plug and go, and does what it says. Very reliable hard drive. I have so many of them, I feel its so silly to get rid of my footage when I can keep multiple projects on these reasonably priced drives.
