5 stars because it’s an excellent little hard drive, as Seagate products typically are. However, for buyer research, I want to expand on a question regarding compatibility with iPad, and echo what I’ve written in the Q&A: All answers in the Q&A section say that it’s not compatible with iPad, but in my experience, it works just fine with my 3rd Gen iPad Pro (USB-C*) if the drive is formatted in either exFAT or Mac OS Extended Journaled (both in GUID partition). *An iPad with a Lightning connector would likely require the use of Apple’s Lightning to USB Camera Adapter However the one caveat is that I can’t get the iPad to recognize it if it’s encrypted. When formatted in Mac OS Extended Journaled Encrypted, the drive would power on, but it would not be recognized by the iPad in the Files app. My SSD and USB flash drive work fine formatted in APFS Encrypted, but APFS is not recommended for hard disks. Therefore, if you want to use this drive with encryption, format it in Mac OS Extended Journaled Encrypted and use it with a Mac. But if you want something encrypted for direct use with your iPad, use a flash drive or an external SSD and use APFS Encrypted. Otherwise, this is a fine hard disk drive all around and will see use as a compact backup for the iPad’s flash drive and other personal files (using a Mac for file management).

Love this drive! Small, fast with a lot of storage and no power supply necessary. It’s about the same foot print as an iphone and about twice as thick.

Easy plug n play. Was able to start full backup within minutes. Might need to buy another since this one was a gift for my hubby (and he won’t share)!

Enjoying my 5TB hard drive!!! I also noticed alot of freezing with my games, not sure if the 5TB is the reason for the freeze tho.

There are better and faster external drives, but I have three of these and have never had a problem that I didn’t cause myself. I would recommend them for a stationary situations such as I have in my studio.

I purchased this external hard drive to back up my computer and store my thousands of images, freeing up some space. I plugged it in and it did it’s thing, loading up the software to communicate with my computer. No errors involved and my backup went smooth. The transferring of my images went way faster than I expected, and I’m happy having a lot more room left on the device for future use.

I own more than a half dozen of Seagate portables going back years and have never ever had any issues unlike some other brands. I use these for photo backups and backups of my backups mostly and wouldn’t think to use anything other than a Seagate . . .

I am an avid photographer and needed more storage space for my digital images to avoid using space on my laptop. I had purchased one of these Seagate drives for my daughter a year ago and she has been using it almost daily without any problems. It is convenient for taking files with you when you need more than a flash drive and don’t want to carry your laptop.

This is a great external hard drive. It’s already been set up for both Windows and Mac so all I had to do was plug it in and start transferring docs.

This is the best 5TB external drive that I’ve found. It’s significantly cheaper and much more convenient than those that require their own power source. This one is plug and play, and the speed is as good or better than any other external drive that I have (including 2 that have their own power source). The construction feels solid, and the footprint is small-basically the same size as the 2TB drive and slightly less than twice as thick. As with all storage devices, failure is a risk, but so far, I’ve had better luck with Seagate than other manufacturers.

The drive works absolutely great. It’s small, fast and quiet. Fits in my old protective cases and has great design. If you need 2tb portable and reliable drive, get this one!

I just needed an external drive to back computers up for storage in a fireproof safe. The 2TB and small form factor is great. I was able to plug the drive into my Windows 10 laptop and start the backup within minutes after receiving the package. The entire drive is about the length and width of my hand and as thick as my pinky finger. It won’t take up much room in the safe!

Best value for money

Incredibly smaller than my previous 5TB drives, which is a definite plus, and very quiet. As a photographer, 99% of my data is in photos and I found the transfer to be equally fast as other USB 3 drives. Price was the best I found anywhere for 5 TBs so crossing fingers that it holds up well.
