Out of the box, this is absolutely the slowest drive I’ve ever owned. 19 hours to transfer 1TB of photos and it kept freezing. Tried transferring same files to a 2 TB Seagate drive and it took less than 2 hours. Not certain if this specific one is a defective drive or if all the 5TB’s are this slow….

I have just acquired several of these drives, and have loaded them up, so far with no problems whatsoever, from a 2014 vintage iMac. The drives are very quiet, and seem reasonably fast. I would say they are an excellent value, and very subtle and minimalist in their design. No complaints whatever, and B&H are excellent at shipping to Canada. Gotta love free shipping!

I’m using it as a media storage drive for my xbox one x. Its plenty fast. Transfered nearly half a TB in 20 minutes. Its plastic, so its feels ok, but I’m not planning on moving it much so it is perfectly fine.

Great drive so far and I’ve always used Seagate drives for photography. Not sure when a 3.63TB drive became classified as a 4TB drive though. The actual capacity right out of the box with nothing on it is 3.63TB, so just know that you’re getting shorted almost a half a TB. That’s a little dissapointing when capacity is my primary reason for upgrading to a new drive. Not B&H’s fault, but it would be nice to see that info under the specs.

Who would believe that an external drive would be anything other than a plug-and-play? Well, this drive not only could not take files copied from my other drive, but it locked up my computer when I tried to restart. I had to remove the drive and restore the computer to salvage get it running again. Even after formatting the drive multiple times at the suggestion of Seagate’s tech support, it still would not take the transfer from my other drives. It would stop after several minutes and say that the drive needed to be formatted. Seagate’s tech support was prompt, and they tried to be helpful, but all I have after a week is a black brick that I am scared to reconnect to my computer. The Seagate SeaTools program diagnostic software that their tech support suggested wouldn’t even recognize the drive in order to diagnose it. My previous experience with Seagate back-up drives has been good, which is the reason I opted for this new 4TB version.

No problem on initial setup. then it would not be recognized by the computer. a day later it was recognized. transferred some files over(as a backup). Fine for a week then not recognized by the computer again. Giving up on seagate

I purchased it to back-up important data from my computer. Then my laptop was stolen from me on Halloween. I used this Seagate Hard Drive to save the progress I made while writing my novel in the month of November. I completed my book in late December. Ever since, whenever I connect my hard drive to a computer it doesn’t show up at all. I cannot access any of the data that I don’t have backed up anywhere else. I purchased my Seagate External Hard Drive on Oct. 2. It’s Dec. 2 and it is no longer functional.
