I purchased the unit to back up files from a soon to be decommissioned 2012 MacAir computer. The transfer went smoothly and as far as I can tell perfectly. Intended use is as a static back up, that is, it is for security of existing material rather than ongoing addition of new files. For the price, it seems just right for what I need.

Does what it is supposed to. Only criticism is that the included cable is a bit short for a desktop.

Have used this model for quite some time and the Seagate is reliable and stable. Great for sending through the USPS – Would recommend this product.
Helene Hegmann (verified owner) –
Great value for 2 TB external drive. Comes formatted for Windows, but start up program makes it simple to follow the instructions to format it for Mac.
Brandy Bradtke (verified owner) –
Smaller than the standard HDD. Which makes it more suitable to pack and travel. Execellent read and write speed.

these are cheap drives so you should test them immediately after you buy them. I left mine on the shelf till i needed it and then it was too late to return it when I realized it was defective.

Too early to tell reliability

I am very satisfied with this product. I use the external hard drive to backup computer files. I recommend this product to anyone looking for an external hard drive.

Use it with my Macbook Pro for about 2 months now and happy with my purchase so far. Compact, quiet, relatively fast – everything I wanted. I had to format it to use with Mac OS X.

This is the third external Seagate drive I have bought for my desktop system. They have all performed very well so far. I have found the B&H prices & delivery to be better than Amazon and other sources.
Dudley Legros (verified owner) –
Bought this to store dvr recordings, and works very well.
Keshaun Mayer (verified owner) –
I love the quality and ease of use on this HD. Its simple, works well, and exactly what I needed.

Yep, a bit larger than an iPhone but it has 5TB of storage. I’ve just begun using it. It should be as reliable as the other Seagate Drives I’ve used. They’ve all lasted a long time. No complaints. Definitely like the smaller size.

Wasn’t DOA so that’s good. Benchmarks right around 130 MB/s, seems pretty solid.
Thelma Kreiger (verified owner) –
Just needed an extra drive to drop some extra files on. Works perfectly for that. You get what you pay for as the housing feels really cheap.
Josiah Swaniawski (verified owner) –
Although I’ve had the drive only for a week or so, it has nearly 2TB of data files and have no negative issues to report. it is performing as advertised except that it idles when not in use and takes a bit of time before it is ready to read or write files. Annoying but not fatal; similar to Toshiba’s and Western Digital’s USB HDD. Seagate’s Backup Plus 5TB drive that I also own is a much better performer in that it doesn’t idle when not in use and, thus far, hasn’t failed in the six months I’ve used it.

Needed a small portable USB drive to back up (Time Machine) MacBook. What can I say. Does the trick!
