I’ve been using this drive for about 2 weeks, and so far I like it with some reservations. It’s relatively quiet and the r/w speeds are on par with the competition. The only thing I don’t like about this drive (so far) is the lack of rubber feet… it tends to slide around on metal surfaces (like when sitting on top of your case). Over the past 7 years, I’ve purchased about two dozen WD My Passport drives, and came to discover they have a tendency to fail at around the 2-3 year mark. After the last recent failure, I decided to give Seagate a try, so we’ll see how this drive lasts. As a side note, I think any moving platter technology should be considered portable temporary storage, and not a backup. I may eventually move to SSD drives as the capacities increase

I used this HDD with my Mac Book Pro 15- 2017 and and I’m not very happy with it. It’s not fast, and i had some problems to format.

I had no great expectations given the capacity of this drive. I put this thing to the test and, at first, it was just so-so. I found that the factory had formatted this drive as NTFS (VFAT can’t run this large.) but they made the block size only 4k. When I reformatted it to 32k NTFS it came alive. The response times went down and it just worked better for the work I ask it to do. Your mileage may vary, it all depends on what you need. This guy powers from the USB connection, so make sure the device(s) you use can handle the extra draw…it uses way less juice than older USB hybrids I’ve owned.

I needed to have this product within days, in time for a visit from my techie friend who would install my BRAND NEW MAC (yay!). Needed this HD to be here for the setup process. The drive is overall amazing, incredibly small, and not too loud. The only issue is that it can be quite slow. I only got up to 50 MB/S write speed sequential, so I wouldn’t recommend running an OS on it as I did, you should use an SSD instead.
