This is a great HDD. I wish it had a power button to be switched off when not in use. I use this connected to my LG monitor instead of macbook air itself and it works great that way.

I have recently bought and used this 8TB HD for my main work back up drive. Not quite as quick as an onboard unit for large data transfer but he way I do back ups in units it is working fine and size for cost has worked out well

The drive seems to work okay but it makes such weird noises. Kind of like a clogged drain sort of draining, then a wind up like a small motor when it engages. I am wondering if there is something wrong with this unit or is this what this drive sounds like when it is working or even not working. When it is idle is sounds like a distant car alarm. Not really trusting it at this point. But not sure if it is normal or Abnormal.

This is my 2nd Seagate expansion Drive, I also have an 8TB. The plug and play and easy to use Toolkit software make backups easy. The drives are also very quiet.

Significantly speedier than the external drives it replaced even though they were also USB 3.0. A bit on the loud side, you’ll want a little cushioning underneath the drive to minimize noise. Once you do this the noise isn’t bad at all.

package is fine. needs a special power supply (it does come with one) so can’t work off a USB power cord. capacity only 7.27 GB rather than 8 GB.

Our new Macbook Pro doesn’t have enough storage for doing Photoshop/Lightroom so we got a 16 TB 2big Dock Thunderbolt 3 to act as the main drive for the system. The Seagate expansion drive has been the perfect complement to this setup since it allows us to do simple local backups of our main drive. So far it has proven simple and reliable. We have always had good experiences with Seagate. Highly recommended.
