The drive was bought to replace a 10TB Seagate drive and basically, it does what it is suppose to do. TWO things stick out though. 1) The drive is a bit noisy….you can hear the read/write movement of the heads. It is particularly loud because the computer it is hooked up to has SSD drives in it, which means it makes NO NOISE, so any is a lot. 2) I bought it as a 14TB Drive and upon opening and hooking it up…it comes in at 12.7TB of useful space. Not sure why the HUGE space grab for this BUT REAL GLAD I didn’t opt for the 12TB drive. I understand that whatever is on the drive, to make it work and all takes up SOME space, BUT I would have expected the useful space to be 13TB plus…not 12.

Worked out of the box. Feel confident all my files are being backed up.

So far, so good. Goes to sleep when the computer does, which should increase its life. If the drive lasts for a couple of years, five stars are appropriate, but if it should fail tomorrow, I would give it only one star.

Early review for an hdd, but form factor is great, no fluff -rectangular just larger than the drive. Great write speed hit ~290mb usb 3.1 from a Linux device

easy to set up, quiet, and works for chia.

Amazing storage per TB considering current pricing and the drive is achieving transfer speed of 242MB/s on a standard USB 3 port, (so I would assume on a 3.1 as well). ‘The noise issue’ some report, depends what you put the unit on. Putting the drive directly on wood appears to bring out a harmonic frequency ‘piezo’ speaker effect and on a metal base, it downright rings. Put the drive on a mouse pad buffer first and the thing is very quiet.

I use this drive for personal use. To back up pictures, music files, and family movies. I used it for about two weeks flawlessly. Quick and successful file transfers, without issues. This is my 8th Seagate external backup hard drive. Seagate is always reliable.

Delivers on the promise. Would certainly purchase again!

So far so good. I’ve just had this a few weeks, but it’s been great downloading all of my photos so far. =)

Hope it don’t crash, just saying !

I bought this as an inexpensive option for backing up video files, and it works fine. I won’t be using it for actual performance work like editing, but as a back up unit, you can’t beat the cost relative to capacity. No problems so far, but I only bought it a couple weeks ago.

It’s ok for backing up footage but is very slow

Third Seagate drive for back up. The more time goes on the more TBs I need. Works decent.

Bought this for a backup drive we back up large video files and I will use a least 3 drives this on takes its time and sometimes at the end of larger files it will hang up for an hour or more I would have returned it but waited to long

I have been buying records of this brand for years, hopefully they have never been damaged, they are safe, they look good on the desktop, the best thing is that they are very reliable, I will continue to buy more of this brand

I am using this drive as a back up for my Synology system. I formatted it using Synology and it works perfectly out of the box.

I use for all of my photo, videos and documents equaling homework as well

I purchased this super-large USB drive as a dedicated backup to my 8GB Synology NAS which as a USB Backup application. The extra capacity provides future space for versioning and archive of deleted files.

This Seagate 18TB drive performs consistently well so I’m going to address a few of the criticisms stated here: 1. Noise is no worse than any other hard drive you may have 2. Speed It is designed for huge chunks of data and speed is not/should not be the primary consideration. If you want speed then get an Nvme SSD. It is not going to be as fast as your internal drive or an SSD but it is acceptable for what it can do. I use it with a Mac myself, but did not reformat it and left it in EX-FAT format. Yet even so the speed is not bad, and it makes it more universally usable for transfers, etc. It is primarily a backup for me; I wouldn’t use any external drive as a primary source for data. Thus I am using Nvme SSDs for speed and then backing up on this drive. It is perfect for that purpose.

Couldn’t be more simple on Win10–plug and play and get enormous boost in capacity.
