I’ve only had my drive for a few weeks however as soon as I got it I ran all of the usual tests like S.M.A.R.T. and short/long read/write tests and it passed them all. I wrote about 5TB of backups to the drive over the first couple days and had 0 issues with it at all. Drive isn’t loud and when writing to it at batches of about 250-500GB at a time it barely heated up. Assuming it lasts this will likely be the hard drive I keep buying as/if I end up needing more space!

I’m really disappointed with this purchase. The USB connection was not detected right out of the box.

Cheapest way to get a 8TB HD. Open this up and remove the drive and you just saved yourself some $$ over buying a bare internal HD I have 5 of the and they work flawlessly.

Everything I could have hoped for!

This drive is very easy to use, just plug it in and go. Truly amazing that it is 8TB for a reasonable price. A good way to backup photos and other files.

Works right out of the box, no messing, a big bargain for the (sale) price.

This is a nicely packaged and solid product. You will hear the actuator as the heads move, but that’s not an issue for me. It is moving more mass (read/write heads) than my 4TB and 8TB drives, so I’m not really surprised. Installs easily and works well.

This was a quick and easy setup for my ps4. So far, so good.

Five stars for the price/performance ratio. Not the fastest, not the most expensive. It’s really a good option for what I’m using it for which is an external Linux file store.

Customer for life! Thank you, B&H you have such an awesome team. This product arrived extremely quickly, in a well protected packaging. Overall Seagate is a great product, data read and write speed is fast, quality material such as the hard drive housing is dourable, needs a little more air circulation. I currently own 10x of this 8TB expansion drive. I will be ordering more of this soon. Because B&H provides the best products, low pricing and expedited shipping.

I like that the Seatgate 4TB has an ac power source…it makes me feel it is more reliable as a back up. And the price for a 4T is terrific.

I would have given this five stars except for the fact that B&H doesn’t explain that if you have a mac, you have to reformat the drive. It’s also rather noisy every time it goes into action, which makes it impossible when recording or videoing to use it. Very pricey item to discover this after spending 24 hours moving all my files from various other drives onto it.

Worked fine on my iMac running Big Sur and then all of a sudden it disappeared. Could not recover data even with disk utility. Returned it immediately and purchased a G-Drive from another vendor.
Eudora Fisher (verified owner) –
I bought this for my iMac. I needed a big drive to store video files. I do not work directly off of the drive, so I can’t comment on how fast it would be for something like that. As a backup and to transfer files though it works quick enough. I did have to reformat the drive the first time I hooked it up, it isn’t formatted for Mac straight out of the box.

Excellent drive to partition into 3 and clone 3 source drives. Pretty wueit too. I wish it had a power switch but great unit

I’ve been using WD My Book and My Cloud for years. I find this drive easier to use and set up. I find the access equal to the WD drives

Looks turned on (light is illuminated), I hear a noise like it’s trying to boot, but it no longer shows up on any computer I plug it into.
Cesar Blick (verified owner) –
Connected the drive and backed up 200Gb in less than 1 hour. The drive functioned without issue.

Im not sure why, but Seagates external 8TB drives are much less expensive than their 8TB Barracuda internal drives. It makes a great, reliable external drive. In a pinch (see youtube) it also makes a great internal drive. I have 7 of them and not one failure yet, knock on wood.

Using it as a back up for ex4.
