An affordable way to back up your footage. I haven’t had any drive failures so far and I’ve had several of these for years.

I was using a 1TB hard drive for my old iMac which had a 250gb HD. This year I upgraded to a new machine which has a 2TB SSD and ran out of space on the old external so this 6TB drive is everything I’ll need for a backup disk, at a great price. Setup was easy. I had to reformat to Mac OS Extended (Journaled), but Disk Utility makes that super easy, let it run backup overnight while the machine was in sleep mode, and everything is running great. There’s definitely peace of mind in having all of my data backed up.

I’m using this as a big local backup drive for a 5TB and a 2TB working drive. It serves well for this purpose. Like others have said, transfers tend to start off fast and then settle into slower speeds. This makes it fine for backup, but probably not recommended as a working drive for photo/video editing. Drive noise is negligible. Will the drive eventually fail? Who knows, but most drives eventually fail – that’s why I got this one as a backup after all! At least this one’s relatively cheap so replacement won’t break the bank.

I’ve looked far and wide for large storage options for video footage and this is great. I store all my old projects on these and have never had an issue. One thing to know is that you do not want to lose the power cable to this guy. It will only work with the seagate power supply.

Plugged the external enclosure in my NAS running OMV. Formatted it and is running great. Streams all my 4k and 1080p movies/shows just fine. Already had another 12tb external, but it was getting filled up.

Bought two of these as part of a migration from Mac to PC for photo and video work. I haven’t noticed a noise issue as some have mentioned, no noisier than the computer fans. Best speeds so far have been between 100-110 MB/s. We’ll see how they do over time.

Not the fastest drive I’ve ever owned but great for storage which is why I purchased it.

Problems since moment one. Too but too slow, i dont recommend it for mac for sure. I used to use seagate but with this experience i’m going to lacie for ever.

It’s a big drive, a tad on the slow side, and a little on the loud side but I can’t complain. It does what I want it to and that is hold a lot of information and take up as little amount of space as it can.

I use this as a media library in my living room, so it’s only gotten light use over the past 3 months, but I have no issues with it.

The Seagate 8TB Expansion Drive is shipped with software to enable operating systems that can’t handle 8TB written onto the drive. But it works fine in Windows 7 and Windows 10 without the software installed, as soon as it’s plugged in.

I needed a place to backup my system and 3 internal drives and this 8TB, USB 3.0 drive has worked perfectly for me.

It’s doing what it’s supposed to for me, which is storage. Granted you can edit videos off this drive but if you have patience then you should be ok. Use proxies. I wouldn’t try editing 6k raw or anything heavy like that, but for storage of pictures, videos, etc. this is a good amount of space. I’ll probably buy more soon. When dealing with raw footage and images, space can run out quick.

I had a need for backup storage of my most precious documents. This is the best external drive I’ve eve owned.

I needed a new storage drive for my video work and since I’ve been working with 4K video this seemed like a good option for my needs. The drive looks great and runs quiet although when it’s doing a lot of read/write cycles I can feel it running when I touch my desk. For me it’s not a big deal but for others, the vibration might be an issue. The drive comes preformatted for Windows (NTFS file system) but it can easily be reformatted for other O/S’s. I use Mac OS X so I had to reformat it but it’s not a big deal.

Mine came with a 14TB Seagate IronWolf Pro. This drive can go for over $400 on Amazon and at the $200 price I paid for this, it was a steal. Tested with CrystalDiskMark, Sequential speeds of 250MB/s read and write. Great for bulk storage of videos, games, etc. Can be shucked to use the 14TB drive as an internal hard drive, albeit voiding the warranty.
