Easy to use! Just plug into your laptop or desktop and go! Decent transfer speed. So far I’ve transferred close to 1 TB of photo files for safe keeping! It’s helped speed up my laptop too!!

Lots of storage at a good price

I wish SSDs were cheap enough to make old fashioned HHDs disappear. This drive was cheap and slow, but will work as the backup location it was immediately demoted to. It’s fine for what it is.

This is my third 8TB Expansion drive. I formatted it as a Mac Extended (Journaled) drive. It seems to be working great with the Mac. The other two drives were formatted as Windows 10 NTFS drives and have been in service for a couple of years. Absolutely no glitches yet. I have used many Seagate drives since the 1980s. I have had only two failures in all that time. One was 35 years ago and I was able to recover that drive. The other was about 15 years ago. I thought I was clever and ran a mirrored RAID array to automatically back up my data. When I got bad sectors on the primary drive, the mirrored drive copied them. If I had used an external drive for weekly backups instead I would have recovered the 25,000 RAW photos that I lost. That was a hard lesson. Even though I trust Seagate with my data every day, I still make regular backups.

No problems so far, however the external drive is noisy

Love the large capacity. The drive is mostly very quiet but from time-to-time it does make a louder grinding sound. Overall impressed.

I connected the supplied USB 3 cable and plugged in the power transformer. Windows 10 did the rest, no divers or software. It worked perfectly the first time. My only comment is a little noise when it “wakes up” after my computer sleeps. You’ll notice that when you’re in a quiet area. After that, it’s fine.

I guess that is all I can tell so far. Why ask for a review just after purchase? I need time, at least a year or three to see how reliable it is.

I bought this drive to back up the contents of my computers and then store in my fire safe. It’s got a lot of capacity for its size, so it’s convenient for my purposes.

I have always had good experiences with Seagate products. The Seagate 8TB Expansion Desktop USB 3.0 External Hard Drive has been no different. It is a good product for a reasonable price.

I have a 3 year old Dell 2tb computer which is full, mainly because of photos, large photos from a Nikon D800. I have tried backing up my files on small portable hard drives oh, but it gets confusing on where everything is. Im so glad I got this hard drive as I have transferred over a hundred thousand photos to a folder, just by dragging and dropping, and I still have so much room. So glad I went with the a terabyte external hard drive as I can keep everything more organized. I highly recommend the Seagate 8tb expansion desktop external hard drive.

Great price and size. Decent physical footprint and quite. WIsh it had a faster connection to my mac though

Easy to crack open for shucking. The USB-SATA converters come in handy if you need a quick way to access a bare drive down the road.

I don’t know why the vendors expect us to review drives when we first plug them in. How can I give a hard drive a 5 star rating until they’ve run for 4 or 5 years with no issues. So far so good, however. I use a product called Crashplan for cloud and local backup option and I recommend it. I find it works a little smoother on Macs than Carbonite, which works great on my wife’s Windows PC. I use one STEB3000100 3TB for my data, and a 2nd one as backup to the data drive. Crashplan backs up my important files to the cloud on an ongoing basis, for me that’s about 400 GB. I also have Crashplan backup all my data to the 2nd Seagate and keep them identical. Works fine. I don’t even know it’s there.

That was easy. I don’t like difficult websites when it comes to ordering something. Thank you for that and the quick shipping.

It is great to have a large external back-up for my images. The unit is a little noisy at times. It does serve it purpose and that’s what is important.

Using it as a backup location for all my data. It does give out a bit more noise compared to my older 5TB external hard drive, but have not observed any issue with performance yet.

This is my 2nd purchase for this model drive. Haven’t had any issues with them so far. I had to format these before using, which takes about 24 hours, which helps insures my writing on these later without errors. I’m using these on my server to store movies on my Plex, which I haven’t had any lag or hesitations on movies when watching them. They do rattle a little at times when reading/writing but not enough to bother me. The drives do run a little on the warm side but during the cold days helps to keep my room warm. In the summer gotta make sure to keep the room air conditioned/cool to avoid overheating/failures. I would get another if these get full.

I have 2 other drives like this (5TB though). I have had no issues and install in minutes with no drivers or complication.
