I just installed a pair of these on my iMac to support various photo and video projects. It’s too early to say much about reliability, but so far so good! They worked right out of the box, though I reformatted them for use on a Mac (a quick and easy operation). One thing I wondered about before purchase that I can clarify in case you’re wondering too. B&H has a photo for the 8 TB model that shows it smooth and horizontal, whereas all the smaller sizes were vertical with a waffle texture. I can assure you that the 8 TB has the same vertical waffle appearance as its smaller siblings, so ignore the photo. (Maybe they will have changed it by the time you read this.)

Installed easily, but there is no software to use/monitor/control it. There is , however, there is great option to SUBSCRIBE to some software. disappointed. Have had HD drives that were much better. is it still returnable?

I have 6 of these – I buy them every so often strictly to archive all of my work – there simply for storage purposes, not used as primary drives. Bottom line – for my needs, they perform.

This drive is being used as a backup drive for a Mac Pro and has USB 3.0/2.0 connection only. The performance seems to be in line with a 5400 rmp drive, and very quite. Warranty only being one year is of a concern, so I wouldn’t really on this as a single backup solution, but rather as a fall-back drive.

The plastic case makes an annoying vibration sound when operating. I used a small piece of wood on top to damp the vibration.

Worked with WD for a long time then a Seagate drive has outlasted all my drives. I DJed with it. So it wasn’t treated kindly. Bought it about 2010 or so and it it still going strong. That made me rethink my allegiance to WD. AS ADVERTISED this is being a fine drive. HIghly recommended. If it last 5 years or more you have me for life.

I haven’t had the Seagate 3tb External Hard drive long; I transfer photos once a month, so my initial transfer went smoothly with no problems. The only reason I’m giving a 4 star is because I haven’t used much yet.

Cheapest way to get a good 8TB drive. Just bust the case open and remove the drive. I use mine in an OWC Thunderbolt bare drive dual bay unit for back ups. I’d recommend it as well.
