I am using it with a MacBook Pro. It works fine as long as it’s directly connected to the Macbook, otherwise it periodically disconnects itself. Never had that problem with a WD. I won’t be buying Seagate again.

I am only buying Seagate now, after serious issues with WD. I dropped one star simply because larger drives today are not as dependable as smaller drives I still use after many years. I have some reporting perfect condition, which is really remarkable. In contrast, I am loosing larger drives much faster. I only use the larger disks for storage. The smaller disks, I am using in new builds, when they are retired from storage.

I had the 8Tb version, and it was fine, but the 14Tb went on sale, so I snapped it up. A tiny bit slower and louder than the 8Tb model, but nearly double the storage. Plug it in only when needed, otherwise it’ll slow down other computer functions.

Unit suddenly lost power, will not restart, (NO Power) ALL our back-up GONE!! Seagate should be ashamed for producing such a poor quality product. Now to RMA it back, we have to pay out of pocket, were done with Seagates Expansion Desktop Drives. NEXT Western Digital and HGST, hopefully we have better luck. we handle these items with kid gloves and to have them abruptly fail is sad.

Customer for life! Thank you, B&H you have such an awesome team. This product arrived extremely quickly, in a well protected packaging. Overall Seagate is a great product, data read and write speed is fast, quality material such as the hard drive housing is dourable, needs a little more air circulation. I currently own 10x of this 8TB expansion drive. I will be ordering more of this soon. Because B&H provides the best products, low pricing and expedited shipping.

Performing as expected after three weeks. Slightly noisier than the Western Digital drives, but I’m hoping it will be more reliable. Some of my WD drives have had trouble, including a 10TB drive which failed after the first year.

I wish SSDs were cheap enough to make old fashioned HHDs disappear. This drive was cheap and slow, but will work as the backup location it was immediately demoted to. It’s fine for what it is.
