This is my second seagare backup hard drive and so far so good, great price for 8tb!

I use this drive mainly as storage for backups. I also use it for general storage (photos, videos, etc). It is fast and easy to use. I’ve had it about one month and it has been flawless during that time. Time will tell as to its reliability. However, as of now, I can highly recommend this drive.

I have purchased 8 of these Seagate Expansion Drives from 4TB thru 14TB for myself and my customers for external back up for customers. I tore a 12TB and 10TB apart and mounted the drives in a Server. (less expensive than buying simple internal drive). I’m a computer tech for 24 years full time.

Hello, I bought a 14TB external drive, the drive arrived on time, but encountered two issues, 1. The drive is extremely noisy, like a burst of shots every time I write about it, 2. The transfer rate really changes, and sometimes drops to 7 mb / s and does not maintain a high transfer rate And uniform, should the product be returned or can they be remotely inspected and repaired? I would love for you to get back to me, thank you

I am a professional photographer. I have been buying Seagate drives to back up my clients projects. The drives work and the price is fair. What else is there to say. However, I have a story to tell. I always work with two drives at a time. One of the drives failed two weeks ago. The drive was out of warranty. Seagate had me send them the drive to check out. They replaced it with a working drive. Now that is a stand up company!

Im not sure why, but Seagates external 8TB drives are much less expensive than their 8TB Barracuda internal drives. It makes a great, reliable external drive. In a pinch (see youtube) it also makes a great internal drive. I have 7 of them and not one failure yet, knock on wood.

I got this for periodic backups and archives. Works great. I do wish it had a USB A and or C connection type. Those may be slower, but most folk already have those cables on hand. I worry about the lack of cooling and dust removal options, but no issues so far.

Plug and play compatibility with Windows 10. Time will tell if the drive lasts.

happily it took my data, great backup drive for the price. Planning on storing it so ask again in a year or two. Hopefully I’ll never know othrwise.

I only use mechanical hard drives for Time Machine backup for my Macs. Every brand doesn’t seem to work well for this purpose so I buy WD or Seagate for this. I use 2 drives along with a cloud backup.

Looks turned on (light is illuminated), I hear a noise like it’s trying to boot, but it no longer shows up on any computer I plug it into.

I had high hopes for this product. An affordable 8 TB HD is a dream. That is, until it fell onto its side one gloomy afternoon. Post the event, the HD is beeping and is making an audible clicking sound… After some research, I found that the needle is most likely stuck somewhere outside of the platter. My computer will no longer read it and therefore, I cannot access my files. I have an appointment set up with a shop that fixes these kinds of issues and hopefully recover the files… We will see. I know there are similar products that are beefier and can handle tip overs etc. but I was shocked at how much damage a simple tip over caused. Might as well spend the extra $100 for an HD that can take slight* abuse!

Thanks to Seagate for not raising prices due to Chia mining. WD has gone mad by almost doubling their prices

Great price and size. Decent physical footprint and quite. WIsh it had a faster connection to my mac though

Very satisfied, seems sturdy. Works great after a couple of weeks, of course we’ll have to wait and see after a year or two.

I’m using this as a big local backup drive for a 5TB and a 2TB working drive. It serves well for this purpose. Like others have said, transfers tend to start off fast and then settle into slower speeds. This makes it fine for backup, but probably not recommended as a working drive for photo/video editing. Drive noise is negligible. Will the drive eventually fail? Who knows, but most drives eventually fail – that’s why I got this one as a backup after all! At least this one’s relatively cheap so replacement won’t break the bank.

Couldn’t be more simple on Win10–plug and play and get enormous boost in capacity.

Worked fine on my iMac running Big Sur and then all of a sudden it disappeared. Could not recover data even with disk utility. Returned it immediately and purchased a G-Drive from another vendor.
