Great product, brand, and price!

After switching from Canon to the GH5, my file sizes were upped in a big way. After a ton of research, I decided to not spend almost double the price for G-tech drives or LaCie. I know both of those are really reliable drives, but Ive never had any issues with any Seagate drives Ive owned. The first 8tb I bought has been plugged into my PC since Ive had it… that means a TON of run time. On Black Friday 2018, I was on a mission for 2 more 8tb drives (not necessarily this exact drive, but something cost friendly). Long story short(er), my exact drive was marked down by $40-$50… Without any hesitation I bought 2 more 8tb. I plan on using these drives as long as they are in production. Im not sure about their ruggedness, but since these 8tb stay in my gear closet or on my desk, Im not too worried about mishandling them. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. 10/10 Would smash that buy button again.

USB 3.0 not super fast but stable. Big capacity, not fast but for the price its great.

Everything you could expect and want in an external drive/storage device!

Was able to plug it in and use this item as needed.

This is the most reliable external drive I’ve found for the price. Other drives have crashed after a few years. I have about 12 of these that have lasted over 3 years.

Significantly speedier than the external drives it replaced even though they were also USB 3.0. A bit on the loud side, you’ll want a little cushioning underneath the drive to minimize noise. Once you do this the noise isn’t bad at all.

It was late in being delivered but I would blame that more on the post office than the manufacturer. I have not owned it for to long to have had mush of a chance to find to many faults but so far it seems to work as one would have have expect. I do have one issue but it’s more the industry than this product it’s self and that is that there is less room on the drive than is advertised. When they say that there is so much room on the drive that is not usable space but space before all the stuff on the drive that takes up space on the drive so it’s usable.

I use for all of my photo, videos and documents equaling homework as well

Bought this drive because it was 4tb. Very affordable redundant storage. I can even use it for working projects amd leaves mu Internal drive for speed and computations.

I give this 5 stars for reliability, 4 for speed (it’s definitely not an SSD) and 3 for the fact that it is far from silent and sitting on my desk it vibrates slightly – but this is common for conventional disk drives. Doesn’t mean it can’t be designed away!

It is great to have a large external back-up for my images. The unit is a little noisy at times. It does serve it purpose and that’s what is important.
Myra Sporer (verified owner) –
It is slower and noisier than I expected, but that is not a problem for me because I use it for automated backup and do not usually interact with it.

For context, I am using a Linux mini desktop as my primary home platform. I reformatted the drive with the EXT4 file system. It is one of 4 expansion drives in my configuration. 2 of the other expansion drives are backups (using rsync), while this and one other drive are my primaries. I am moving a net of around 20GB of data per day onto these drives (adding around 35GB and removing around 15GB per day). All of the drives are between 60% and 75% utilized. All 4 expansion drives are connected via USB3 interfaces. Now for my review. I have found this drive to be very reliable and reasonably fast. While writes are noticeably slower than reads, they are still much faster than USB2 drives. In spite of the hard disk not having lightning fast rotational speed (I think it is a 5400 rpm model), it gets the job done without significant delays. When I move a large quantity of data in a short period, the drive does get warm (certainly not hot). It seems to cool off relatively quickly during periods when I am not moving data. During times when I am not using it, the drive autoparks (reducing power consumption and wear/tear on the drive, itself). Bottom line, I would recommend this as a good option for anyone seeking to expand their storage footprint.

Am using this with M1 MacBook Pro 13 and OWC Thunderbolt dock. Initially I thought it was owrking great but two things are making it look really shakey. (1) it keeps undocking and reconnecting itself, every few hours, and (2) trying to copy files from this drive back to another drive is failing due to unrecognized characters in file name. Sad. No other drive has these problems at all, not even a little bit. Very sad.

Excellent drive to store videos
Macie Gleason (verified owner) –
Yeah you might not be able to edit 8k video off these drives but in terms of storage this is more than enough for logging raw video files. I got these because it was on sale and surprisingly cheaper than Costco. So I got three.

I use this strictly for Time Machine backups on my iMac and it works seamlessly.
