I was in the market for a desktop drive and chose the 3TB Seagate, knowing a bit about their history and reputation. I can’t tell you how easy the hook-up was. Two chords and my computer auto-recognized the drive, a few clicks later and I was up and running. It was a three minute process! Now all my thousands of photos and music are backed-up and I am very happy with the price and ease-of-use. Seagate has a great product. Loving it.

Would be a great product if it worked on all my computers. It only works on one of my 3 computers at home, (It’s not a USB 3 issue, they all have USB 3)

Good value for what you get. Not the fastest interface, but this is my third one in 3 years (360 video files are big). I would prefer this with a newer faster interface USB C, however at this price that probably won’t happen for a few years.

Everything works as expected after a few weeks. This was my first external hard drive needing a power cord, but that’s not an issue for me. The only reason I did not give it five stars is because it’s a bit loud and will vibrate the desk.

Everything I could have hoped for!

I decided to give Seagate a try since Western Digital wasn’t getting the stellar reviews it always has. I have many drives across a few brands, but needed to add more storage and retire a few older drives. This drive worked great– was fast and reliable, until, for no reason, it just stopped powering on. I have tried other outlets, power cords, etc. It is just dead.

I plugged in the Hard Drive and it was immediately recognized my computer and I was backing up files within minutes.
Bernhard Stroman (verified owner) –
Fast, little noisy
Urban Feil (verified owner) –
This hard drive does exactly what it’s supposed to. I have no problems or complaints.
Earnestine Grady (verified owner) –
I’m really disappointed with this purchase. The USB connection was not detected right out of the box.

Awesome hard drive.

Love this hard drive. It’s fast and reliable.

Es la mejor opcin para almacenar proyectos finalizados. No lo recomiendo para editar y/o trabajar cotidianamente (Photoshop/Premiere/After), porque no tiene una gran velocidad de escritura/lectura, pero para backup, es la mejor opcin.

These hard drives are awful. It is literally chance to get this thing to mount successfully. Rarely does it work on the first attempt, and sometimes it just simply won’t connect. I also purchased two others in 8TB sizes at the same time I purchased the 14TB and they have the same issues. These are some of the least dependable drives I have ever owned.
Gail Pfeffer (verified owner) –
So far, so good. Goes to sleep when the computer does, which should increase its life. If the drive lasts for a couple of years, five stars are appropriate, but if it should fail tomorrow, I would give it only one star.
Katheryn Heaney (verified owner) –
the 8TB drive is actually 7.27TB and when you google 7.27 you can readabkut how this is an accepted thing that some companies do when calculating size.

Easy to crack open for shucking. The USB-SATA converters come in handy if you need a quick way to access a bare drive down the road.
Dakota Ruecker (verified owner) –
package is fine. needs a special power supply (it does come with one) so can’t work off a USB power cord. capacity only 7.27 GB rather than 8 GB.

I have Windows XP and I purchased a PCI card with USB 3.0 ports on it to interface with the Seagate drives. Unfortunately, In the small print on a PDF I got from the Seagate web site, not in the published sales information, was the requirement that it required Windows 7 or later OS. My USB ports connected to the drives but the OS did not recognize them. I then purchased a used desktop computer with Windows 7 installed and 4 USB 3.0 ports. I then started to transfer files from my older 3 TB hard drives to one of the new 8 TB drives. I wasn’t disappointed with relatively slow transfer rates thinking that it was the USB 2 rating of the old 3 TB drives. However, I then started transferring files from one of the new 8TB drives to the other 8TB drive and the best data rate I got, with them both plugged into USB 3 ports was about 26 Mega-Bytes per second. It took over a day to transfer the 2.9 TB of data between the two new 8 TB drives. I’m not sure what the problem was but it was painfully slow. Back to the review: B&H did nothing wrong and the drives were delivered quickly in good shape and I want to be sure that the reader does not equate my issues to dissatisfaction with B&H. However, I am les than satisfied with the performance of the Seagate 8TB hard drives. I’ve been a fan of Seagate and these were the 6th and 7th USB external Seagate drives I’ve purchased for data storage on my computer(s).

Bought two, back up to both so if one eventually fails I still have data. Not the fastest drive but for backup its price performance is excellent.
