I was very surprised that I connected up the 8TB hard drive external for additional storage and it came right up with the computer recognizing the full 8TB. The last time I brought on additional storage it was nightmare trying to get the computer to see the full 3TB it only showed 1TB. As soon as it was up I started downloading big movie files I have and the new hard drive took it all. Took 15 hours to download with no problems I was impressed.

Takes up very little room on my desk. I only plug it in when I need to copy files from desktop to permanent storage, but even then it isn’t a loud unit. I don’t recommend keeping it plugged into your computer all the time, it will slow things down momentarily because everything else is SSD. Keep it handy, plug it in only when needed. Works great!

I run a whole slew of these as my archival drives. Fast enough to edit off if REALLY in a pinch, but at the price, it is tough to argue!

It’s a great value for the money. But as some of the reviews mentioned, it’s noisy. Still, I thought: eh, how bad can it be? But, honestly, it’s CRAZY loud. And if you set it on any kind of surface that resonates / bounces sound, it’s worse. If you need cheap storage go for it, but for a drive you have to live with every day it may be worth it to look elsewhere, even if it means spending more.

Well my WD Book External drive glitched on my the other day. It was one of my back up external drives. I let my fingers do the shopping and B&H had what I was looking for. Right price, 8TB is good for me. Just got this today. Hooked it up, formatted for my mac and it is sitting pretty on my home desk. It is not noisy, and like my other external drives, I will only power it up when using it. It is not a big deal for me to eject the unit and pull the power plug. For those who had a rough time reformatting this for a mac, go to you tube and find Javier Mercedes, How to format an External Hard Drive for Mac. He explains in detail what to do. Very easy-just go to Utility disk–follow his lead. thanks B&H for the swift delivery!

I connected the supplied USB 3 cable and plugged in the power transformer. Windows 10 did the rest, no divers or software. It worked perfectly the first time. My only comment is a little noise when it “wakes up” after my computer sleeps. You’ll notice that when you’re in a quiet area. After that, it’s fine.
