I am using this drive as a on-site backup for my desktop and it does the job. My operating system Win10 provides all the tools to back my files up on an external drive. What I am looking for is a drive that starts empty and the full capacity that its designation states. This Seagate drive, however still comes with a bunch of preloaded files and apps including backup management tools that I really don’t want. I find it annoying that I have to reformat a brand new drive to get rid of all those unwanted preloads.

I haven’t had the Seagate 3tb External Hard drive long; I transfer photos once a month, so my initial transfer went smoothly with no problems. The only reason I’m giving a 4 star is because I haven’t used much yet.

Excellent Hard Drive for the price.

I ordered a couple of these but because they were on backorder, I waited quite a bit. Luckily I was in no rush and got them at an amazing price. Onto the performance. These things are quiet! Checking CrystalDiskInfo, these are using Ironwolfs. Transfers are fast and it works as it should. We shall see how they perform in the long run.

The first drive failed within a week. BH would NOT give me a refund/credit as I did not have the original box anymore. I got the replacement and now, 6 months later, it has failed AGAIN!! I’ve lost a significant amount of data. I have dozens and dozens of external drives and not one have ever failed. None. This drive failing TWICE now speaks volumes of Seagates quality.

This drive was easy to set up. It is fast and works flawlessly. I bought this unit to replace another brand drive that failed almost immediatley after it was purchased. I would certainly buy another.

Needed more space as videos and other programs filled up hard drive on my PC. This provided so much more room that I was able to free up memory on my computer and it also is running better now. It transfer files relatively fast.

Exactly as describe. I use this drive to backup up my photos and to keep a copy of my operating system. So far it’s been great and I see no problem as yet. It also runs quiet in the background. I am more than pleased with this purchase and will probably order another one in the near future!

I have a 3 year old Dell 2tb computer which is full, mainly because of photos, large photos from a Nikon D800. I have tried backing up my files on small portable hard drives oh, but it gets confusing on where everything is. Im so glad I got this hard drive as I have transferred over a hundred thousand photos to a folder, just by dragging and dropping, and I still have so much room. So glad I went with the a terabyte external hard drive as I can keep everything more organized. I highly recommend the Seagate 8tb expansion desktop external hard drive.

First Seagate was an internal add-on to my Mac G5. It lived as long as the computer (years) with no issues. Second was a 3TB external, now several years old, used with my previous iMac–the 3TB still works fine. This drive was bought for use with the new 2019 iMac–I wanted more space for large photo and video files. Reformatting for Mac is effortless and takes only a few minutes with Disk Utility. One thing I like about the Seagates is that they make little noise when working. Some drives sound like they are shredding your data–not these.

I have used several of this model external hard drive. They have all lasted over 5 years. Transfer rates are at most 100 MB/s. usually about 50% less given it uses USB 3.0 and a slow hard drive (~5400 rpm). Great for back up.

Our new Macbook Pro doesn’t have enough storage for doing Photoshop/Lightroom so we got a 16 TB 2big Dock Thunderbolt 3 to act as the main drive for the system. The Seagate expansion drive has been the perfect complement to this setup since it allows us to do simple local backups of our main drive. So far it has proven simple and reliable. We have always had good experiences with Seagate. Highly recommended.

I have a number of external drives that are in constant use. This drive replaces a WD My Book that died on me twice (it was used for Mac Time Capsule backups). The capacity of this drive is perfect and the price was great. However, this is the noisiest drive I’ve had in a long time. It sits on my desk and spins up each hour as Time Capsule performs a backup and it’s noticeably loud. At night when the place is quiet, I can hear it in the next room. That said, if this thing turns out to be as reliable as some of my other drives, I’d probably buy another couple because of the price.

Device is very very fragile so I cannot recommend it. It’s only been in use a couple of weeks and after being simply knocked over from the upright position it started peeping and then failed to spin up. So if you’re using one of these be sure it’s in a very stable location.

I just installed a pair of these on my iMac to support various photo and video projects. It’s too early to say much about reliability, but so far so good! They worked right out of the box, though I reformatted them for use on a Mac (a quick and easy operation). One thing I wondered about before purchase that I can clarify in case you’re wondering too. B&H has a photo for the 8 TB model that shows it smooth and horizontal, whereas all the smaller sizes were vertical with a waffle texture. I can assure you that the 8 TB has the same vertical waffle appearance as its smaller siblings, so ignore the photo. (Maybe they will have changed it by the time you read this.)

I’ve looked far and wide for large storage options for video footage and this is great. I store all my old projects on these and have never had an issue. One thing to know is that you do not want to lose the power cable to this guy. It will only work with the seagate power supply.

Works great so far. It does however: (1) report a different set of SMART indicators that my OEM Exos X14 drives, (2) comes with just 1-year warranty in North America as opposed to 5-year OEM Exos coverage and you would need to put it back together as the drive’s own S/N is not valid in the Seagate warranty tool, so you need the enclosure S/N (remember to write down each matching pair!!), (3) requires picks and patience to crack open. Enjoy!

Installed easily, but there is no software to use/monitor/control it. There is , however, there is great option to SUBSCRIBE to some software. disappointed. Have had HD drives that were much better. is it still returnable?

It’s a big drive, a tad on the slow side, and a little on the loud side but I can’t complain. It does what I want it to and that is hold a lot of information and take up as little amount of space as it can.
