Ive attached the Seagate 8TB Expansion Desktop USB 3.0 External Hard Drive to my Synology NAS. Works great.

I would have given this five stars except for the fact that B&H doesn’t explain that if you have a mac, you have to reformat the drive. It’s also rather noisy every time it goes into action, which makes it impossible when recording or videoing to use it. Very pricey item to discover this after spending 24 hours moving all my files from various other drives onto it.

Received an excellent product at a low price.

This new style update for the Seagate Expansion type drives has better airflow than the WD Elements drives. In fact you can see the actual hard drive inside. It is also a little quieter than WD Elements although the amount of vibration is the same. There is a small white LED dot at the top back of the drive. So if you have this on a shelf you may not notice the blinking light. The power brick is about same size as the WD (narrower than a soda can), although I have had WD drives with the P shaped bricks as well as the more convenient sideways bricks. But the Seagate is the P shape. They also give you every power adapter under the sun. You can take this drive literally anywhere in the world and plug it in and it will work. Not my concern but good to know if you travel with your 3.5 drives… Speedwise, I would say this drive is faster than WD Elements, at the beginning of the drive. I was getting 112MB/s over a Gigabit Ethernet connection on this drive initially. As the drive fills up I expect that speed to fall. When copying large videos from a NVME drive, this drive maxed out at 182MB/s.

So far a solid purchase. No regrets. Practical tool and affordable.

I’m storing photographs on mine. It has more space than I need at this time but it’s nice to know the space is there when I will need it eventually.

I have 2 other drives like this (5TB though). I have had no issues and install in minutes with no drivers or complication.

No mention of speed in the specs, should have looked into it more, maxing out at 20-30 MB/s, otherwise its okay. But that’s REALLY slow for a USB 3.0 drive 🙁 They should have mentioned this in the specs. I’ll likely keep it but I wouldn’t recommend it.

What can you say about a little black box that you plug in and let it do its thing to store all kinds of data, photos and videos. It just works. Easy to reformat for MacOS. This is number three of these for my workgroup and will not be the last.

Bought this for a backup drive we back up large video files and I will use a least 3 drives this on takes its time and sometimes at the end of larger files it will hang up for an hour or more I would have returned it but waited to long

I am endlessly surprised at how low this harddrive is. I can hear it clunking from the other room. It sounds like someone tapping their knuckles on a desk. Of all the other Seagate products I’ve owned, this one is by far the loudest.

great drive that seems to be faster than my last one. fast shipping and great price.

This is one of the highest capacity external drives you can buy for a cheap price. Great value for money.

I have been purchasing Seagate products for probably 20 years now. It is one of the first brand names I look for when purchasing a new drive.

Seagate makes an affordable and solid backup disk. I have many of them now. They don’t take up much room on my desk, I like that they stand upright and they make very little noise. Shooting 100MP cameras these days seems to create lots of data and this drive deals with it very well.

So far so good. I’ve just had this a few weeks, but it’s been great downloading all of my photos so far. =)

I had been looking for at least 16 TB to house all my videos and I finally found the right one. Great price and easy to set up.

Good harddrive so far. Haven’t had it too long, quick speed. Do hear the disk spinning so that is a little scary but normal.
