This may be the last HD I buy that runs at 5400rpm. Fine for backup, but not much fun at dynamic/constant interaction.

I bought this as an inexpensive option for backing up video files, and it works fine. I won’t be using it for actual performance work like editing, but as a back up unit, you can’t beat the cost relative to capacity. No problems so far, but I only bought it a couple weeks ago.

Using it as a backup location for all my data. It does give out a bit more noise compared to my older 5TB external hard drive, but have not observed any issue with performance yet.

Just bought it, as it was on sale recently. So far, it does what it’s supposed to do, and stays pretty quiet. I can hear a slight whoosh once in a while, enough to know it’s there, but the sound isn’t loud or noisy, more like a very quiet, small fan. Reliability is TBD, that will take 6-12 months. Hooking it up and installing was a breeze, no issues there. I just leave it on, it’s also on my desktop all the time, so when I need it, I just transfer files there. So far, it’s only been RAW, TIFF and some JPG files, so lots more room left!

Even though this hard drive is a little noisy, I have not had any issues. It is fast and responsive and needs minimal effort to setup. I would recommend it to anyone that needs to upgrade their storage for an affordable price.

Am using the the drive for OSX TimeMachine and it works just fine. HOWEVER, it makes too much noise when spinning up and the vibrations got amplified by my desk. Was able to diminish the problem by using a longer cable and placing the drive on a softer surface (to diminish the vibrations). Someday I will find a high capacity solid state drive. Sigh….

Drive sees USB 3.0 ports as USB 2.0 on my machine and shows a warning every time it starts up. Seagate advised updating drivers. No improvement after doing so. Seagate then said a bad cable shipped with this unit — but ignored my request for them to replace it. The plug that goes into the drive is not like any USB connector that I have ever seen. No idea where I would find another one. On a Windows 7(64-bit) pc, with a quad core CPU and 6GB of RAM, it took five and a half hours to back up 174GB of data from my internal HDD to the Seagate Expansion drive. By comparison, on a Windows XP (32-bit) computer with a 2-core CPU and 2GB of RAM, it took approximately an hour and a half to transfer 232 GB from one USB 2.0 drive to another. Seagate’s response:4TB Expansion drive is not marketed as a fast drive, however our Backup Plus portable 4TB Fast drive is. Their advice: by another computer with USB 3.0 drives and hope it works. Really?

Been using this for a few months. Was a bargain ($200 before the pandemic surge). But, it has hung up a couple of times now requiring a power cycle to restart. Not a good sign.
