Drive was easily set up and easy to use. The two USB ports in the front are actually a lot more handy then I originally thought they would be. Drive is super quite and cannot hear it over the CLX next to it.

My desktop computer had almost run out of space and my Star Tech was nearly full. I had just returned from a trip with a new batch of photos. What could Ido. The Seagate was the answer and I am most pleased.

And the only reason is, that the hd does NOT come partitioned with enough room to install on a Mac OS. You also cannot repartition through the disk utility. You must MANUALLY repartition the drive using the Terminal app and enter code. You can find the code online, but it does take some searching for. If you feel confident that you can do this, the product is great. If you need a plug & play…I’d probably stay away.

We use a lot of these drives, mostly for backup and editing HD video. USB is too slow when editing 4K, but until the price comes down on Thunderbolt 3 drives, these remain an attractive alternative.

I use this drive to back up all my photos, which, as time goes on and photo files get bigger and bigger with every increase in megapixel resolution, works very well. Moreover, I really like the USB hubs (there are 2), because I have the drive on my desk and the hubs are therefore easily accessible. I actually own three of these drives and I love everyone of them. The oldest is at least a couple of years old and it continues to perform flawlessly. I’ve had trouble with other brands, but Seagate’s products haven’t let me down yet.

Quite fast for an external USB HDD and the two USB ports on the front are a bonus.

I have used this hard drive for a few weeks on a Win 7 computer, and am generally satisfied with it. The drive is extremely easy to set up (simply plug in!) and very quiet. It is fairly slow, and therefore best for those who want to have a lot of storage space at a low price, but dont mind waiting a bit longer for large storage jobs to finish.

I’ve only had it running for about 2 weeks but I’ve been backing everything up. Works as a drive should.

my primary laptop is a mac, but i use pc’s to work on media… so this was a perfect solution. if you want to use time machine, you must format it for a mac using disk utility. if you want to use it with time machine and still use it on a pc, there is a paragon driver available for windows that allows you to access the drive once its been formatted for macs.

Bought as I have had so many issues with Windows 10 and external hard drives. This drive has worked great plus it is quiet. Very happy with it

I’ve always used Seagate disks, both internal, small portable external and desktop external like this one. I was really surprised how fast write and read speeds were on this disk as compared to small external drives. When connecting other disks to it directly via the built in USB hub, the speeds were actually significantly faster than when connecting to computer port. I highly recommend this drive.

I originally bought it to expand the storage of my PS4, but found out later that it can’t support drives with built in hubs like this one. That was a letdown, but I just decided to just swap it with one of the non-hub external drives on my iMac. That fixed the PS4 storage issue, but when I plugged this drive into my iMac, it refused to initialize it, so I couldn’t format it or do anything with it in Disk Utility. I swapped it to a Win 10 machine and it worked fine, but even after reformatting in exFAT then iMac still wouldn’t recognize it. To get it to work on the iMac, I had to resort to using Terminal to manually rebuild the MBR and reformat. Once that was done, it’s worked perfectly on the iMac ever since… it was just a bit of a hassle to get it working.

This is my sixth Seagate Backup Drive Ive purchased over the past several years to archive and backup my extensive photo collection, as well as archive and backup files for my business, as well as running Time Machine for Mac on one of them. All six still running and Im impressed by their reliability.

I bought it as by yearly backup drive for video projects. The speed is OK as backup drive (over 110 MB/s). Working well and not big noise. Highly recommend the product.
